Review: Ronnie Baker Brooks – 'Times Have Changed'

Well, if you have to go“. He could be referring to the listener, or maybe a lover. Brooks’ vocals and the descending string pattern in the hook are a match made in heaven. This could be the best album Al Green never made. The production is of an incredibly high standard, as I would expect from Steve Jordan, whose other works have included John Mayer’s “Continuum” and Buddy Guy’s “Bring ’em In”. This album really floored me. I was expecting another typical blues rock album, rather than the chilled out, soulful record we have here. Ronnie Baker Brooks’ vocals are nice and smooth, sharing similarities with Al Green. Coincidentally, the album was recorded in Royal Studios, Memphis where Al Green cut most of his work, and was even recorded on the same mics he used. Obviously some deep mojo going on there. ‘Times Have Changed’ is available 20th January through Mascot Label Group Pre-order on Amazon Review: Colin Plumb
