“I’m gonna kiss all the babies, maybe kiss the mammas too… put Jimi Hendrix on the $20 bill and Bill Hicks on a five note…”, it is a totally gonzo few minutes! Then there are the bodacious horns on ‘In Walks Barbarella’. Oh my! If you have a hankering for some George Clinton with a wall of noise behind him, then this, Bud, is for you! Weaponised funk indeed. How about the full throttle ‘Vision Quest’, which begins with a punkish guitar sound before settling down into a roadhouse riff rocker, complete with honky tonk piano. I believe the kids would call it “sick” or “dope”? Hips will be put out if this one “drops” on the forthcoming live dates. Damn, it is catchy. Drummer Jean-Paul Gaster must have had a blast recording the album, as he is all over it. ‘Weird Times’ belongs to Gaster, and his sound is a thing of beauty. Again, Powell’s organic approach to recording pays dividends. Listen to this gem (or ‘Sonic Counselor’) on a pair of Sennheiser (shameless plug!) cans and your head will spin. Jean-Paul Gaster, I salute you, sir! Any review of ‘Book Of Bad Decisions’ has to include a mention of ‘Hot Bottom Feeder’, which is basically a recipe for Maryland crab cakes! Take that Jamie Oliver… this is how it is done! Check out the video above for a new spin on the traditional music video. Bloody brilliant. Quality production, quality playing and quality pacing… put it together, and you get a quality album. ‘Book Of Bad Decisions’ is available now on Weathermaker Music. Clutch are on tour in the US from mid-September, with European and UK dates later this year. All tour dates can be found here. Review: Dave]]>
