Novena: UK Prog Act Sign To Frontiers

Continuing the label’s mission to present discerning rock and metal fans with the hottest new bands around, Frontiers Music is proud to announce the signing of London based sextet Novena. Currently preparing to unveil their debut album, it is tentatively planned for release in the first quarter of 2020.

Novena established themselves on the UK and international prog scenes in 2016 with the release of their widely praised experimental EP ‘Secondary Genesis.’ Performing at high profile events such as UK Tech-Fest in 2016 and 2017, as well as dates supporting the likes of Skyharbor, Vola and Sithu Aye, Novena have been busy establishing themselves as a force to be reckoned with.

The band state: “In writing ‘Secondary Genesis’ we were saying to ourselves, ‘What could this be?’With our debut album, we are saying ‘This is who we are.’ After three years of working hard to define, write and record the music, we are enormously excited to share it with the world. It acknowledges all of the experimental roads we explored on ‘Secondary Genesis’ and refines, focuses and directs them. It incorporates all of the heavy catharsis, fragile melody, rich harmony and grand storytelling of the EP, but takes it further and casts the net wider. Our aim was to write and tell heartfelt stories, both true and fictitious, and in doing so we have created something that we are proud to share and hope listeners will enjoy. We are enormously excited to be working with Frontiers today and in the future; to share a label with a number of our favourite bands is a dream. Expect so much more from us in the coming years – on record, online and in person. Today is just the beginning. Tomorrow is the eleventh hour. The rest is just the space between.”

The music made by Novena moves from the profound to the profane, from the fragile to the unforgiving, and from the introspective to the utterly destructive, exploring a plethora of genres along the way. Despite this, every song has a solid and personal identity, with choruses that dare the listener to try and forget them.

Novena exploits fully the world class skills of the group’s talented line-up. From the unmatchable voice of Ross Jennings (Haken, Mike Portnoy’s Shattered Fortress) to the inimitable poetry of Gareth Mason (Slice The Cake); from the blistering guitar work of Dan Thornton (ex-HAARP Machine, ex-No Sin Evades His Gaze) to the invariably musical drumming of Cameron Spence (Ravenface, EEVAH), which is deeply rooted in the pop idiom and unlike anything else in the modern prog scene; and from the expressive and versatile bass playing of Moat Lowe (Slugdge, Ex-NSEHG) to the complex and nuanced compositions of guitarist/keyboardist Harrison White (also theatrical director), Novena truly delivers something greater than the sum of its parts.

Fans of intelligent, engaging, emotional music will have much to indulge their mind and spirit when
