Introducing: Sig And The Fire Pilots

Sig And The Fire Pilots are a rocking three-piece hailing from Cannock, belting out groovy Rhythm and Blues. Here is the gospel according to Sig:

What are the origins of the band, and how long have you been playing together?

The band’s only been together about 1 year. I met Dave just before Covid struck, then lockdown. When it lifted, Dave and I self-started to run through some songs with a drum machine …took ages to find the right drummer, but we hit pay dirt with Duggie…and here we are,

What should people expect when they check the band out? How would you describe Sig And The Fire Pilots?

Old Pyjamas peas tomatoes mutton beef and trout. A bit of everything really. We are a Rocky-Poppy–Bluesy-Funky-Reggae Band…lol!

How did you feel performing your first gig as a band, and how was it?!

The rhythm section in this band is a bit special, So with something that solid as the foundation, it was a breeze really. I don’t have to do a lot, Lol, I sometimes think, I’d love to get off the stage and just watch them pair.

The new music scene is bursting at the seams at the minute with fresh talent, in what ways do you feel that a band has to stand out to build a name for themselves?

The way I see it, the times they are a changing. Simon Cowell has a lot to answer for the death of the music industry in the UK for the past generation, but, the light at the end of the tunnel is an oncoming train. There are so many talented original bands coming through its a brilliant time to be a musician…It’s like a huge bottleneck has been created and it’s gonna burst. For me, how to stand out ..Don’t bore us get to the chorus, if ya got something to say send it Western Union.

What are you working on at the minute that people can check out?

We are currently working on our new single (Almost out of Time) songs recorded, just working on a video. It’s kind of a lament for the planet. Hopefully it should be out before April 23rd.

In terms of a similar audience, which band out there at the minute do you feel Sig And The Fire Pilots would be best suited to open for?

Always held a candle to open for Chrissie Hynde and The Pretenders, but Biffy Clyro would be a result

Excluding yourself, which new band would you like to see break out and become a success?

The local music scene around Cannock where I live has some fine bands…so I would go for King Herd

What are your own first musical memories? And what was the lightbulb moment that made you go “I want to do that”?

I think the first time I was really touched was by Louis Armstrong (Satchmo) I was brought up listening to Trad Jazz. The likes of Barbour-Ball – Bilk, Ray Charles, Nat King Cole. Early Memories.

What was the last gig that you attended as a fan?

Roger Waters’s The Wall

What current social issue are you particularly passionate about?

If Global Warming is to be believed then, Its a no-brainer. The planet is dying? It’s the subject matter for our new single (Almost Out Of Time) Never ceases to amaze me how much chewing gum is on the pavements, and how much litter is around beauty spots…seems to be a lot of people out there with no shame.

The album that you have in your album collection/Spotify playlist that would surprise most people?

Manfred Manns Earth Band (Angel Station) The Joker And The Clown, Without a Safety Net. Balancing Unsteady On a Wire!

What new music have you been enjoying so far this year?

Dave runs a venue called The Station in Cannock, And when new original bands play, I like to go there and watch them…gives me a real buzz.

What does 2023 hold for Sig And The Fire Pilots?

Exciting times, I’d like to think it holds opportunity. Really happy and enjoying it at the moment

How active are you on social media and where can people connect with you?

Very active as we speak. Good fun, spending most days promoting…
