Introducing: Peralis

Comprising of members from three successful Irish Heavy Rock/Metal bands ‘Kerouac’, ‘Marabou’ and ‘Ritual Effect’, Peralis burst onto the scene with years of high intensity live shows and critically acclaimed releases under their belts. Here’s the lowdown on the band..

What are the origins of the band, how long have you been playing together?

Peralis was the brain child of vocalist and lead guitarist Ren Marabou. Back in early 2019 Ren called on long time friends and experienced Irish musicians Moe Curtin (drums) from Ritual Effect and Kalebh Grocock (bass) from Marabou. With the recent addition of Adam Burke on rhythm guitar replacing original rhythm guitarist AJ the final line up was complete.

How did you feel performing your first gig? And how was it?!

Our first show was great actually, thanks to our followers we still had from our previous bands Kerouac, Marabou and Syllian Rayle. We have a very loyal fan base that shows us amazing support with all our musical ventures.

What should people expect when they check the band out? How would you describe yourself?

We are a band set on the old principles of giving 100% at our live shows, blood, sweats, and tears. We like to bring high energy performances to all our shows. Riffs, heavy grooves, and dynamic melodic breaks.

The new music scene is bursting at the seams with fresh talent, in what ways do you feel that a band has to stand out from the others trying to build a name?

We agree there is so much talent in today’s music scene. Standing out is even more difficult now as a result. Best way to overcome this is still to be true to yourself, your art and stick to your guns. People take notice when music comes from a real place.

What are you working on at the minute that people can check out?

We recently released a double A-Side single ‘Primal Self’ – ‘Contort, Thrive, Survive’ which is available on all major platforms including Spotify, iTunes, Amazon Music, iHeartRadio, Apple Music, Google Play and YouTube (via the Ren Marabou YouTube Channel). We hope in the coming months to get back into the studio to finish off our upcoming EP.

What band out there at the minute do you feel that you would be best suited to open for?

We feel we would go down a treat opening for someone like Deftones. They are a massive inspiration on our music.

Who do you feel is the next band to break out?

King Creature are really making waves, only a matter of time till they are a metal house hold name.

What are your first musical memories? And what was the light bulb moment that made you go “I want to do that”?

For me (Ren) it would have to be seeing Silverchair perform ‘Anthem of the year 2000’ on David Letterman. Life changing moment!

What was the last gig that you attended as a fan?

The last show we caught was Metallica in Ireland. Fourth time to see them and can’t wait till the next time. Legends!

The album that you have in your album collection/spotify playlist that would surprise most people?

As a band we have quite diverse listening pallets. Ranging from Classic Rock to Metal, Blues and Jazz. For me (Ren) though the most surprising album in the collection would probably be ‘The Carnival’ by Wyclef Jean, it has been in the collection since 1997 and every now and then it gets a spin.

What are your plans for 2020?

Unfortunately most of our plans for 2020 have been put on hold due to the Covid 19 Pandemic. We were to kick off our mini Irish and UK tour in April but we are working on rescheduling most of the dates. We hope that all of our fans and their families stay safe during these sad times and we can’t wait to catch everyone at our rescheduled shows.

How active are you on social media and where can people connect with you?

We have an active online presence. Our main source for news and updates would be our Facebook page but we are also on Instagram, Twitter and YouTube (Ren Marabou Channel).
