Introducing: Faded Shades

UK-based alternative rock trio Faded Shades are set to release their latest single ‘Heartache Calling’ very soon, here’s the background on the band, straight from the horse’s mouth.

What are the origins of Faded Shades, and how long have you been playing together?

The band was formed four years ago in 2018 in order to record our debut album “It Gets Heavy”! Joe (Guitar) and Liam (Bass) have played together before in previous bands while Charlie (Drums) joined later.

What should people expect when they check the band out? How would you describe Faded Shades?

They should expect to hear our latest single “Waiting On Tomorrow”! Expect uplifting, guitar-driven tunes that balance top modern production with our favourite retro sounds! Our Instagram is the best place to check us out and see what we are up to @fadeshadesband.

How did you feel performing your first gig as a band, and how was it?!

Our first gig as a band was as the last act at a day festival in Petts Wood. We felt pretty nervous but had practiced loads and were happy with how we played! We had no major slip-ups and brought a lot of energy to the show.

The new music scene is bursting at the seams at the minute with fresh talent, in what ways do you feel that a band has to stand out to build a name for themselves?

We think it’s really important that a band brings lots of energy to their live shows! The audience will always have a much better time if it looks like the band is having fun. It’s also important to talk to everyone that comes to see you and the other bands on a bill. Being approachable can only win you more support. We have played with plenty of other bands that go for the cool and mysterious vibe, but the audience is always dead!

What are you working on at the minute that people can check out?

We are planning on releasing a single in July called “Heartache Calling” with our label The Animal Farm. We are also excited about recording new material for future releases with our latest song “My Place, Your Place” quickly becoming a fan favourite at our live shows.

In terms of a similar audience, which band out there at the minute do you feel Faded Shades would be best suited to open for?

Not sure about what best suits us, but our dream would be to open for Oasis on the inevitable comeback world tour! Gotta think big!

Excluding yourself, which new band would you like to see break out and become a success?

We very recently played at the Amersham Arms in New Cross with a band called Dead Air and we thought they were amazing live. They were also top blokes to talk to as well which helps. With a little luck perhaps they will be a breakout one day!

What was the last gig that you attended as a fan?

The last event we attended was the Neighbourhood Weekender festival in Warrington last year, which feels like forever! But we do have tickets to see loads of acts this summer including, Liam Gallagher, Primal Scream, Kula Shaker, James, Stereophonics, Ocean Colour Scene, The Libertines, and The Wombats.

What current social issue are you particularly passionate about?

We are pretty passionate about individual freedom; the last few years have been especially frustrating!

The album that you have in your album collection/Spotify playlist that would surprise most people?

Non-rock musical choices vary from Drum & Bass to Raga music and lots of Country music! A country flavour can be heard when we play some of our tunes acoustically at our local open mic nights!

Although 2021 was another year to forget, there were some amazing new albums released, what would be your album of last year? And, what new music have you been enjoying so far this year?

This year we have all loved the Black Keys “Wild Child” album and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers’ album “Unlimited Love”. Both albums feel like a blast from the past and a strong return to form. Last year we also enjoyed releases from Gerry Cinnamon.

What does 2022 hold for Faded Shades?

We are planning on releasing more singles throughout 2022, and also plan on playing as many live shows as possible. We have also been very active getting out to many different open mic nights across southeast London and plan to continue with this!

How active are you on social media and where can people connect with you?

We are very active on social media, and Joe does a great job of interacting with everyone! You can expect funny stories as well as usual updates on upcoming gigs and recording plans. All our socials can be found using the @fadedshadesband handle.
