The Facebook group New Wave of Classic Rock was set up in late 2017 by a handful of music fans to highlight the sheer volume of bands playing new music influenced by the classic rock bands of the ’70s onwards. The aim of the group is to provide a platform where fans can come together and share videos, photos, and recommendations from this great new scene. Many bands involved in the scene are also members of the group, and you can always find a new video or insider information on a forthcoming release being shared by a band to the group. With the current pandemic, and live music taking a massive hit, NWOCR also has its own festivals in the shape of ‘NWOCR Webfest Presents’ where viewers can tune in and watch a handful of bands playing live in a studio, backyard, or even their front room. With over 20.6K members, New Wave of Classic Rock is hugely influential and a fantastic arena for artists – who have seen their main source of income taken a downward turn – potentially reach a whole new worldwide audience.
As a tribute to New Wave of Classic Rock, we have put together a photo album of NWOCR bands that we have captured live over the last few years. From acts like Massive Wagons, Those Damn Crows, and Mason Hill who have all gatecrashed the National Album Charts with recent albums, to acts like Ethyrfield who are just starting their musical journey.
The header image is taken from Cornwall Rocks Festival when, due to a tragic motorway accident, many of the bands booked to appear were delayed so the “M5 Kick out the Jams” band was hastily formed by musicians already onsite for their debut (and only) gig.
