Nigel Barker: Announces New Single

Rapidly making a name for himself as one of the most exciting blues/rock artists in the UK today, Nigel Barker announces the release of his new single ‘I Curse The Sun For Coming Up Today.’ The track, which is released on all major digital platforms on 11th September is far from run of the mill, it’s innovative, original and genuinely different.

‘I Curse The Sun For Coming Up Today’ is the third single to be released from Nigel Barker’s, much anticipated, forthcoming album FIVE which comes out on 9th October 2020.

Nigel says “Why release ‘I Curse The Sun For Coming Up Today’ as a single? Well if you had managed to combine a blues rock guitar and orchestral strings and horns, with dubstep and a killer harmonica, I think you would want to show it off to the world.

This is the third release from my album FIVE and in this instance I’m not out to make pop music. I’m out to make something that’s a little out of the ordinary and this is a little out of the ordinary. Same goes for the lyrics.

Verse 2:
I lost more than a score
On a race that never ends
The bookie now tells me
He don’t take bets from his friends
There be no resolution
No winner at the gate
Just a pig with a wig running two hours late.

I like the imagery.

Nothing is allowed to lapse into being ordinary in this track. The drum kit includes clanging bits of metal. There’s stand up bass, growling cellos and a banjo riff. Banjo? Yeah I squeezed one of them in too. Love it or loathe it, you can’t ignore it.

The same goes for the video. The third verse is followed by a trumpet solo mixed with feedback guitar played by a quartet of musicians wearing eyeball heads and a guitarist with a bag over his head bending the neck of a stratocaster guitar so far it’s threatening to snap off. And throughout my tattooed face is singing over time-lapse images of flowering plants and bugs. Well why not?

Then there’s last verse. One of my favourite lyrics from the five albums I have made so far.

I want a pony for Christmas
But I can’t afford the rent
Normal people scare me and you’ve changed my dope to hemp.
So I suck from the cup of sorrow
And the light I get is bent.
And I curse that sun for coming up today.

If your taste is a little off wack sometimes, this three minute tracks is just for you. Nuff said!”
