Review: Across The Atlantic – ‘Works Of Progress’

We won’t back down”, are enough to get anyone pumped up! ‘Sundress Funeral’ (which is a pretty awesome name for a song!) came as a pleasant surprise, opening with a very cheery atmosphere, and clever use of a ukelele. A shouted “Let’s Go!” drags you into a powerful array of musical energy in a spectacular contradiction to the opening. In comparison, ‘Cutting Corners’ really turns up the volume from the off. Jason Lugo and Julio Bautista use their immense guitar skills to shoot adrenaline straight to the heart. ‘Chin Up’ is slower paced than the previous tracks, but is still full of the raw emotion that Across The Atlantic are so adept at conveying. However, ’24 Hours’ quickly reminds us that they can’t stay subdued too long. Seriously, my head couldn’t stop banging to this one! ‘Word of Mouth’ brings back the feels, before throwing us into ‘Self(less)’, my favourite on the album, emanating that Across The Atlantic volume they never fail to produce, and describing what it’s like to not want to do something great for fear of failing. The final trio opens with the aptly titled break up song, ‘Starting Over’. It’s all about the guitar tone here to truly convey the emotion. ‘Blind Eyes’ brings back the heaviness in preparation of the epic title track, ‘Works Of Progress’. Like a few songs previously on this album, we open to a crescendo of piano and ukulele, but it is not long before the song thickens and rises to new and impressive levels. Across The Atlantic made sure that they went out with a bang, exceeding all my expectations! Although I was not previously familiar with Across The Atlantic, the boys have seriously impressed me. I can see this one being on rotation for quite some time. ‘Works Of Progress’ is available now, more information here Review: Nicole Dicker]]>
