Ramblin' Man Fair – Friday Preview

The Lazys kick proceedings off at 16.00, a fast-paced, incendiary live act who will batter the crowd over the head with their full-throttle Aussie rock ‘n’ roll. Prior to their appearance they will have played a few warm up gigs with both Airbourne and The Wildhearts, which kind of sums The Lazys up really. Watch out for guitarist Matty Morris going walkabout through the crowd if time allows. The Lazys are on fairly quickly after gates open, so no loitering at the back folks! Choice cuts – ‘Nothing But Trouble’, ‘Little Miss Crazy’ and ‘Half Mast Blues’. A relentless touring schedule, both with the Kris Barras Band and with Supersonic Blues Machine, has seen Kris Barras rise to new heights. Winners of ‘Best New Band’ in the 2018 Planet Rock awards, tours from the Kris Barras Band are getting longer, the venues larger and the sold-out signs dusted off. One of the most exciting UK blues-rock guitars around at the moment, Barras releases the ‘Light It Up’ album in September. Choice cuts – ‘Ignite (Light It Up)’ and of course, ‘Hail Mary’. How do you follow these two up? With some high-sheen AOR from English stalwarts FM of course! Steve Overland still has one of the most potent AOR voices today, even thirty odd years after FM first broke through. Choice cuts – ‘That Girl’ and ‘Bad Luck’. Then we have The Wildhearts. With what is looking like the best album of 2019 (‘Renaissance Men’) tucked under their arms, The Wildhearts are on fire at the moment and you could argue that they have never sounded better. Choice cuts – every.fucking.one.of.them. Closing out day one of Ramblin’ Man are headliners The Darkness. The band has gone from strength to strength since reconvening in 2011, and with Rufus Taylor joining on drums a few years later, they have quickly regained their reputation as a formidable live act. New album ‘Easter Is Cancelled’ is due later this year, but in the meantime, be prepared to sing, dance and smile. Choice cuts – you really need guidance? The festival will take place in the beautiful Mote Park in Maidstone, Kent – the garden of England. The park is one of the largest in South East England with more than 450 acres of mature parkland and a 30-acre lake. With multiple travel links via train (Ashford International, Maidstone East and Maidstone West in close proximity) and road (with three park and rides available around Maidstone).
