Introducing: Reaven

French electro rock-pop outfit Reaven are working on their latest album ‘For Tomorrow’, and we spoke to vocalist/guitarist Romeo about the early days of the band as well as what you can expect from the band when you check them out.

What are the origins of the band, how long have you been playing together?

It’s a long story of love ahah, but to cut it short, we started to make music together at school, 16 years ago. It began with concerts in our hometown for Vince (drums) and I. But we always wanted to tour everywhere. And this is where our first European tours arrived in our story… Before the US tour, we were supposed to give in 2020.

How did you feel performing your first gig? And how was it?!

I loved it. It was a very powerful sensation. I was excited like crazy. We played in front of 30 friends, and how was it? You know… we were 13 years old ahah. It was ok ahah.

What should people expect when they check the band out? How would you describe yourself?

People should expect to discover a very personal pop/rock sound with catchy melodies. And also, a touch of electro sounds. I think we always try to create very different music each time. From acoustic pop to rock. Different colors and atmospheres. So if you listen to Reaven you will probably find the color you like in our songs.

The new music scene is bursting at the seams with fresh talent, in what ways do you feel that a band has to stand out from the others trying to build a name?

After many years of being in the music world. I think that a band should always work hard. And be authentic all the time. The road is long, but people who just want to “build a name” just for the sake of it will never last. Those who always focus on their sound, music, work like crazy will stay on the front line longer. But today we cannot forget that communication and image are super important as well. So, standing out is also being as much visible as possible (social networks etc…).

What are you working on at the minute that people can check out?

Recording our new album!! And it’s almost finished actually!!

What band out there at the minute do you feel that you would be best suited to open for?

I think Coldplay or Muse. Maybe The Killers.

Who do you feel is the next band to break out?

That’s a very good question. Being very impartial of course, I would say Reaven ahah.

What are your first musical memories? And what was the light bulb moment that made you go “I want to do that”?

My first musical memories were when I first played on a piano at the age of…years old. And I think it was at 9 years old when I composed my first song, that I knew I wanted to live off this musical passion.

What was the last gig that you attended as a fan?

Paul McCartney concert in the “Stade de France” in Paris. Amazing, as usual!

The album that you have in your album collection/Spotify playlist that would surprise most people?

I think a 90s-2000s playlist with radio hits of this period ahah. It would bring good memories!

What are your plans for the remainder of 2020?

Release our new album “For Tomorrow”, reschedule as much as we can our cancelled tours in Europe and the USA. And film new music videos.
