Introducing: Mudfight

Mudfight“Nevermind the Dookie, Let there be Mudfight!” – Mudfight are a young Austrian Punk trio set to release their debut EP mid-June, bassist/vocalist Max fills in the blanks on our introduction to Mudfight.

What are the origins of the band, how long have you been playing together?

After making music with many different friends, I basically founded the band, because I wanted to make rock music in our scene popular again. I asked drummer Dominik while partying in town and we formed a band during the following days, called ‘Scumbag’. The lineup of the members changed constantly over time until we found Alex as the missing part, that we have been searching for.

How did you feel performing your first gig? And how was it?!

Because of the fact, that I and Dominik played in other bands before, the first gig with Mudfight was relatively relaxed. Alex was a little nervous, but in the end, he handled it very well.

What should people expect when they check the band/you out? How would you describe yourself?

We come out of the punk scene, however, we are not scared of trying out new styles! In general, we would say: short and fast tracks with wild guitar solos, punchy drums and catchy bass lines! You definitely can hear influences by rock legends like Green Day, Nirvana, The Ramones or AC/DC!

Our standard sentence for style is: Never Mind the Dookie, Let There Be Mudfight! (These were the exact words of the owner and our dear friend from our local record store `Good Things ́), addressing albums: Never Mind The Bollocks, Nevermind, Dookie and Let There Be Rock!

The new music scene is bursting at the seams with fresh talent, in what ways do you feel that a band has to stand out from the others trying to build a name?

Due to the fact that most musical styles are already “discovered“, it is very hard trying to create a new genre! However, the image of a band or artist becomes more important every day. You have to stay true to yourself! All People are different, so you have to show the world that you’re not a copy but an original!

What are you working on at the minute that people can check out?

Our first EP `Safe Zone´ will be released on the 12th of June, 2020 via our great label SBÄM Records! You can preorder it now on the SBÄM Online Store (shop.sbam.rocks) or presave it on our social media (Instagram: @mudfightband) in order to win new merchandise!

The lead single of our release, named `Torn Away´, is already out and can be streamed on all streaming platforms!

What band out there at the minute do you feel that you would be best suited to open for?

There are so many bands out there that suit our style, like Green Day, AC/DC or Billy Talent! The question is hard to answer, but definitely a punkrock one like the Decendents, Lagwagon, Teenage Bottlerocket or a similar band!

Who do you feel is the next band to break out?

Very hard question, some of our favorite new punk bands include The Bombpops, Weatherstate or Slotface! We definitely see potential there! ^^

What are your first musical memories? And what was the light bulb moment that made you go “I want to do that”?

Dominik and I were playing with another band at a big local fest. We had loads of fun. That was the moment when we thought: “We want to do that more often!”. The soundcheck made it very special, because working with professionals, who know how to produce a good sound, was just a great experience!

All of us had our first musical experiences thanks to our parents very early. Dominik already started playing drums at age 6, and he often had a foreplay evening. That definitely helped in taking the nervousness away, before performing live.

What was the last gig that you attended as a fan?

For me that was Sum 41 (& Zebrahead) in Vienna this year with a dear friend of mine. The show was awesome, I never saw Sum 41 before and I have been a fan for many years now!

For all of us, that would be the SBÄM Fest Fall Edition 2 in 2019!

Which album in your album collection/Spotify playlist would surprise most people?

Probably something out of my collection, like Midnight Marauders by A Tribe Called Quest or Why Try Harder – The Greatest Hits by Fatboy Slim.

What are your plans for 2020?

We wanted to do some great summer live shows and so on, however we did not expect the CoViD-19 pandemic … Now we are looking forward to making some specials, in this very special year! Updates follow on our social media!

How active are you on social media and where can people connect with you?

We are very active on Instagram and Facebook! If you have any questions – ask us! We would love to answer! You will find all important updates, small contests, Q&As and other content there! We currently run a contest for winning our new merchandise – You only have to presave our new EP on Spotify (Link in Instagram-Bio)! Good Luck!
