Introducing: Marble

North Italian melodic metal act Marble has just released their latest album ‘S.A.V.E.’, and we caught up with the band to get the lowdown on the album, as well as what you can expect if dialing into Marble for the first time.

MarbleWhat are the origins of the band, how long have you been playing together?

Marble was the idea of bass player Daniel, who created with some local musicians an ensemble to play prog and power metal. Soon guitarist Omar and keyboard player Jacopo joined the band and Paul completed the lineup as lead guitarist. There were a few changes behind the mic during the years. We published our first demo, then in 2008 our first full-length ‘A.t.G.o.d’, an ep in 2010. After a forced stop, we reprised the project with Eleonora as our new singer. We re-recorded a song from our first album for a compilation with the new lineup and began recording the new stuff for ‘S.A.V.E.’.

How did you feel performing your first gig? And how was it?!

Our first gig was around 2005 in our hometown, we were really thrilled and there was great energy on stage. We were opening a small festival with other bands!

What should people expect when they check the band out? How would you describe yourself?

We play a mix of metal genres with female vocals, merged with heavy guitars and a progressive approach to the songs. We rely a lot on heavy riffs, but with keyboard arrangments and vocal melodies. For the new album ‘S.A.V.E.’ we also recorded a string quartet for a song. In the lyrics, we combine the concept of sins and virtues with human behaviours. We tried to find our own approach to the subject: not religious, more down to earth, probably a bit cynical and dispassionate. It’s a theme we found tremendously appealing.

The new music scene is bursting at the seams with fresh talent, in what ways do you feel that a band has to stand out from the others trying to build a name?

Nowadays it’s really hard to reach success and make a name for yourself. We could say that in Italy it is difficult also to play live and build an active fanbase, small clubs are constantly closing or refuse to play live music. We think that to stand out, you have to create a good product, and find the right way to promote it on the web and through social media.

MarbleWhat are you working on at the minute that people can check out?

Our new album ‘S.A.V.E.’ will be available on February 16th through Sliptrick Records, followed by a video clip of the new single ‘What Leads Us To”

What band out there at the minute do you feel that you would be best suited to open for?

Oh, we’d like to play with so many bands we love. In the metal scene maybe Evergrey or Epica, if we had the luxury of choice.

Who do you feel is the next band to break out?

We really do not know. There are too many factors involved and the pandemic has changed all the dynamics in the music industry. We’ll see when live events start again.

What are your first musical memories? And what was the light bulb moment that made you go “I want to do that”?

Everyone in the band has their own story. Our bass player Daniel was the one who started this project with Paul and Omar, many years ago.

MarbleWhat was the last gig that you attended as a fan?

Daniel and Eleonora watched Sabaton live before the pandemic

The album that you have in your album collection/Spotify playlist that would surprise most people?

Eleonora’s playlist would be a surprise for every metalhead. But we’re keeping it a secret for the time being… jokes aside, she’s probably the group member with more eclectic tastes, from metal to folk, from hard rock to brit-pop, from movie scores to r&b!

Although 2020 has been a year to forget for many reasons, there has been some incredible music released; what would be your album of the year?

Not to be selfish but our album ‘S.A.V.E.’ meant a lot for us, it was made during the pandemic and signals our return on the scene after many years of silence. But if we have to name a few, Dark Tranquillity’s and Protest The Hero’s 2020 albums are on the list!

How active are you on social media and where can people connect with you?
