Introducing: Az The World Burnz

Tucson, AZ-based, metal harmony band AZ THE WORLD BURNZ has released the official music video for their debut single, “End of Suffering.” With the single produced by Elias Tannous (CRAZY TOWN), “End of Suffering” was directed by Louie Cohen (EPIDEMIC MEDIA), and was written in tribute to late local musician and friend Jesus Manuel Ramirez, Jr. Connect with AZ THE WORLD BURNZ, below.

What are the origins of Az The World Burnz, how long have you been playing together?

JAY TENN: As fate would have it, February 4th, I was celebrating my birthday by going out to karaoke. After the bar had closed, John Hottinger heard me and said “hey, you gotta meet my guy Jonny 2 Mics”. So I was invited to a house full of crazy rock-n-rollers and the rest is history. You can’t fight fate. Shane and Loch arrived to the madness a couple of weeks later with their flavor and then we all decided to call ourselves Az The World Burnz. We’ve been playing now for just a little over a year.

What should people expect when they check the band out? How would you describe Az The World Burnz?

LOCH 360: You can expect a unique and attractive Clash of the Genres rolled in a jam session at every show and on every track. We’re like the Voltron or Megazord of music. We come together with our different musical backgrounds and create this unifying equation that is attracting new fans every day.

ANGEL SHANE: People are waiting to see everything. They’re waiting to see how we switch and flip the genres through our songs.

How did you feel performing your first gig as a band, and how was it?!

JAY TENN: It all made sense. Jonny believed in us. He put the show together, no rehearsal. He called Shifty from CrazyTown. They showed up and we tore the house down!

ANGEL SHANE: I felt great and was just really excited to get back on stage. And I was anxious to see everybody’s reaction once we got on stage.

The new music scene is bursting at the seams at the minute with fresh talent, in what ways do you feel that a band has to stand out to build a name for themselves?

ANGEL SHANE: Be original but also you can’t be afraid to step outside of the box to demand attention.

JAY TENN: It’s one thing to keep up with the trends. It’s a whole other thing to let it flow naturally and it be this DAMN good. So stay true. Not everybody’s gonna love you. Just don’t give up. Trust the process. That’s the key. That’s the THING.

LOCH 360: I’d think one major key to standing out is to find your voice. If you listen to lots and lots of music, then you are hearing everyone else’s voice. To find your voice, you have to sound like what everyone else is not.

What are you working on at the minute that people can check out?

JAY TENN: Well, our debut release, “End of Suffering” is now available on all major streaming platforms. The official music video, shot by Epidemic Media, now showing on YouTube. Please subscribe by the way. We’ve also just finished a song called “Addicted” which was produced by Matt Good. We got such good feedback that it forced us to start shooting the video less than a week later. We think it’s that special! We’re aiming to release it this spring 2022.

In terms of a similar audience, which band out there at the minute do you feel Az The World Burnz would be best suited to open for?

JAY TENN: Hard to answer for us because we don’t play any one specific genre. But here are a few names of people that we feel would love our music: Tech N9ne, Jelly Roll, Asking Alexandria, Dan & Shay, Florida Georgia Line, Lil Wayne. We have a set that can rock with any fucking headliner from any genre. We have a full set.

ANGEL SHANE: Any band actually. We can literally play all types of music

Excluding yourself, which new band would you like to see break out and become a success?

JAY TENN: Hell Doubt, Lethal Injection, Stands With Fists, Flying Half-Full, Slow Truck

ANGEL SHANE: Hell Doubt, Flying Half-Full, Riot

What are your own first musical memories? And what was the lightbulb moment that made you go “I want to do that”?

JAY TENN: When I was 11 years old, I met Dr. Feel Good, the creator of the dance The Hustle. He loved me and I was on stages at nightclubs, opening for acts such as Roger Troutman & The Zapp Band, Marvin Sease, Shirley Murdock, and Earth, Wind, & Fire. Roger offered my Mom $50,000 to take me for 6 months. We traveled for 3 weeks on his tour bus and recorded 4 songs. I knew I was on my way until, unfortunately, he was murdered shortly after he brought me back home. I knew that if he believed in me then I had something.

ANGEL SHANE: When I was 9 or 10, my mom put me in a talent show and I got 2nd place. That was it for me watching how everyone reacted to my performance. It kind of got addicting after that.

What was the last gig that you attended as a fan?

ANGEL SHANE: Hypokrit, Johnny Arson, and Slow Truck

JONNY 2 MICS: Crazy Town

JAY TENN: Hell Doubt. It was a sold-out show and we had a blast.

What current social issue are you particularly passionate about?

JAY TENN: Daddies Lives Matter. Stop taking away from the men who take care of their children and also make it easier for said men to take care of their children.

LOCH 360: Climate change. The world is literally burning.

ANGEL SHANE: Racism and discrimination.

The album that you have in your album collection/Spotify playlist that would surprise most people?

JAY TENN: Garth Brooks’s Greatest Hits

ANGEL SHANE: I think people would be surprised to know that I listen to a lot of Folk music

Although 2021 was another year to forget, there were some amazing new albums released, what would be your album of last year?

JAY TENN: An Evening with Silk Sonic or The Off Season by J. Cole

ANGEL SHANE: Dan & Shay, Justin Beiber

What does 2022 hold for Az The World Burnz?

ANGEL SHANE: Shows, shows, and more shows. And big-time nominations.

JONNY 2 MICS: We’re looking forward to releasing more music and collaborations with other bands and artists. By the end of the year, we seek to be completing our first EP.

How active are you on social media and where can people connect with you?

LOCH 360: We are very much active on social media.
