INTHEWHALE: New album ‘Vanishing Point’ – 22nd October

INTHEWHALE release new album ‘Vanishing Point’ on 22nd October, out on Riot Records, and will be supporting EVIL SCARECROW on their UK tour in Oct/Nov.

‘Vanishing Point’ is the first album release on Riot Records for Denver heavy alt-rock band INTHEWHALE. Produced by Steve Evetts at the Foo Fighters’ Studio 606, 7 songs were recorded live in the studio to tape, and the rawness and intensity reflects that fact. With lyrical themes spanning from bullying to suicide to gentrification, Vanishing Point is far-and-away
INTHEWHALE’s most ambitious recording to date.

The bombastic power duo will release Vanishing Point digitally on the 22nd of October. INTHEWHALE have released four stunning singles in the lead up to the release of Vanishing Point; ‘Smoke Break’, ‘Jeffrey’, ‘Drug Dealer’ and ‘Crosses’

INTHEWHALE is an extremely unique act. They push sonic boundaries to the limit and deliver a relentless pounding to the senses. Their alternative, post-rock intensity creates a seismic event, showing a band not afraid to take chances or show any fear in their songwriting.

Vanishing Point Track by track:

‘Crosses’ is a song about looking yourself in the mirror, realizing you’re going to die one day, and wrestling with that fact. The fast paced, high intensity of the instrumental reflects the lyrical content of life flying by at a frantic pace.

‘Jeffrey’ is written from the perspective of someone trying their hardest to be normal, yet knowing they aren’t, deep down. The staccato guitar rhythms and big open choruses make this song one of the fiercest on the EP.

‘Smoke Break’ is about suicidal thoughts and depression. It’s about what happens when those feelings are not dealt with and come to a head, with the main character saying, “today’s the day.” Dedicated to the people the members of the band have lost to suicide, ‘Smoke Break’ is possibly the most personal song the band has ever written.

‘Drug Dealer’ works with the pharmaceutical industry and how many of us are being sold an addiction to a prescription drug, rather than an illegal drug and the lines that blur in-between. The song climaxes in the bridge with a slow breakdown, mimicking a real-life breakdown.

‘Antlion’ is about the very real gentrification happening in the band’s hometown of Denver CO, but also all over the United States. The lyrics are from the perspective of the gentrifier who seeks to take whatever they want by any means necessary.

‘Edge Of The Earth’ is about how the world may be lost and falling apart, but there is still always an opportunity to start again. This is the slowest song on the EP, but never loses its intensity.

‘The End’ is about the band’s frustration with the current state of society, the world and how sometimes we just want the whole thing to end. Culminating with a blistering off time breakdown, it’s the perfect ending to the EP.

ABOUT INTHEWHALE

INTHEWHALE have been turning heads and accumulating a mass of die-hard fans and followers thanks to a relentless tour schedule and an explosive live performance. Artists and festival promoters have taken notice, with the band playing Riot Fest, Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits, and Afro Punk, as well as shows with Jane’s Addiction, The Descendents, The Offspring, Gogol Bordello and many more.
The band celebrated their 7-year anniversary in 2018 with the release of Dopamine – a six track EP produced by Steve Evetts (The Used, Sepultura, Dillinger Escape Plan) and recorded at the Foo Fighters’ famed Studio 606. Dopamine’s first week sales made it on to the Billboard Heatseekers, Independent Albums and Heatseekers Mountain (#1) charts.

“Dirty, fun, and caked in garage grime, the songs are unconcerned with trends.”
–Bob Gendron, Chicago Tribune

“The fandom is ever-expanding after ITW’s latest EP release Dopamine, a collection of six tracks that make you grit your teeth, mosh on command, and maybe shed a tear or two – and that combination is simply as punk as it gets.”
– Music Existence

Don’t you just love finding out a band is a two-piece? It always amazes me how full a track can sound even though there are only two musicians rocking out. In The Whale, a dynamic duo from Colorado, have amazed me with their sound and this month they just released their fifth EP, Dopamine.”
– Pure Grain Audio

And therein lies the true dichotomy of In The Whale; a brilliant blending of cathartic, hard rock with glass-raising hooks, that goes far beyond the initial mosh pit party vibe. In The Whale can throw a party, but they can also make its attendees think in the process.”
