Review: Reckless Intentions – 'Lights' EP

My head’s a mess but I like it that way‘.  It’s a delightfully complex listen that will have you hooked.

The EP’s conclusion, ‘Home’, is exponentially different. The song’s beginning showcases a sheer delicacy and fragility of sound that is rarely found within the rock genre, and is certainly an ear-pleaser. The soft introductory notes of the piano contrast wonderfully with the barrage of raw riffs that follow, reflecting the song’s building emotion. Here, Reckless Intentions’ gang vocals come into their own, highlighting the band’s lyrical prowess: ‘I don’t know what you see in me/but I’m doing it the best that I can‘. Such lyrics, and the vocals that accompany them, are reminiscent of feelings of inadequacy and insecurity in oneself. However, lyrically, ‘Home’ is also emotionally paradoxical. There is a distinct tension between notions of inadequacy and of feeling at home with someone. ‘Home’ may be the last song of the ‘Lights’ EP, but I think that we can expect big things from Reckless Intentions in the future.
