Review: Vega/Midnite City – Stereo, Glasgow

we never hang an English flag when we play our hometown!“. So, to wind up Hutch he wipes his sweat on the Saltire, before joking, “gonna need some saving tonight!“. It’s all bants mate, just bants, and no-one is offended. Towards the end of the show, Workman tells a fan that is filming on his phone to get up on stage. Rather sheepishly at first, the guy takes the stage and Workman tells him to film what he wants. Each of the band mug it up for the camera, including James Martin on the keyboards. Hard to notice up at the back, Martin does make his presence felt throughout the evening. The guitars are king though. Marcus Thurston (looks like Earl Slick, plays like Sambora) and young whippersnapper Mikey Kew make it look easy. The other Martin, Tom Martin, plays his bass like it was a lead guitar and the trio make a fine frontline. Too soon, Workman brings a fine evening to an early end, and both bands are out on the merch stands ready, willing, and able to sign anything… until security start moving people along. Ironically, climbing the stairs out of the venue, I’m drawn to a poster advertising the Def Leppard gig later this year. Rather than have that hour or so after doors open, with no music and cries of “How much?!” from the bar, stick Vega on. They have the songs, the confidence and the chops. They just need a chance. After a few days off, the tour resumes on July 5th in Cardiff, all remaining dates here. Review: Dave]]>
