Review: SHADED – ‘The Better Man In Me’ EP

“I find myself when I’m holding onto you” and “the sight of you swallows me”. This is a song that would really be perfect for one of those days that revolves around moping about all those tough decisions! Even though the SHADED’s choice of lyrics may seem to be those that send many into a downward spiral about that one guy or gal that they let slip, the lyrics are beautifully thought out and are carefully put together to really show what it means to be in love. The EP then flows into ‘Here’s To Starting Again’, which kicks off with a heavier start and an incredibly catchy tune. As you would guess from the title, this particular song discusses the restarting of a relationship, and that special feeling you get when you reconnect with someone. However, it is not long before the EP reverts back to the pain of heartache, and in the song ‘Tendencies (The times I Caved)’, the lyrics are incredibly emotional. The bridge also contains an insert from Miles Kent, whose varied lyrical tone helps to expose the emotional downfall. ‘Too Far Distant’ carries on this emotional downfall, and even though this song is the shortest, it is the most emotionally powerful. Compared to the other songs, this song is much slower, which adds to the bleeding heart theme that SHADED are pursuing through their EP. ‘Bitter Cold’ however breaks this unhappy slumber and fires back into an upbeat sound that shows that not all relationships are terrible, and that happiness is all that matters! This song has to be my favourite due to the positive lyrics and the amazing riffs from Callum, Dan, and Barney! ‘The Better Man In Me’ ends on a high note. ‘Deal My Hand’ is such an epic song. I can imagine being in the audience while this song fires up live! It’s beat is exciting and makes me just want to jump around! This first SHADED EP is brilliant, and would be a great listen for anyone who is a fan of other Pop Punk rockers such as Bowling For Soup, Go:Audio and Blitz Kids. SHADED’s musical talent create a masterpiece which will leave you wanting more. Available 1st September, pre-order details can be found here  Review: Nicole Dicker]]>
