Review: Seasonal – 'Bloom' EP

it’s funny how your mind takes certain things / and builds them up so you can’t see past the fear it brings’. However, the song ‘speaks’ from a very positive standpoint, emphasizing the notion that if you are struggling with something too big or too dark to handle alone, ‘you’re not alone’, and reaching out is nothing to be ashamed of. ‘Ranger’ is a song that’s full of energy, massive drum fills, and call and response vocals. It’s certainly of a stark contrast to ‘Certainty’, but in a manner which exponentially expands the spectrum of Seasonal’s sound. A wonderful addition to the EP. The concluding song, ‘Homeward’, is also particularly worthy of note. It wholly stands out from the eclecticism of ‘Bloom’ due to its slow and soft nature, at least in its very beginning. The slow, quiet instrumentation allows the lyrics to speak for themselves. They want to say goodbye, to need closure of some sort. Having said this, rather than being distinctly mournful, the song takes a more celebratory approach. It’s a song that seems very close to the band’s heart, but is also one that is inherently relatable. A mesmerizing conclusion to this rollercoaster of an EP. In short, Seasonal really have struck gold with ‘Bloom’; it’s certainly a strong release. The EP showcases a technical and lyrical prowess that is practically unheard of in such a young band, manifesting itself in songs which are deceptively tricky, and lyrically relatable, without being insufferably generic. I strongly suggest you get your hands on it. Review: Amy Jefferies. Follow Seasonal on Facebook]]>
