Review: Massive Wagons – 'Full Nelson'

But not you… you can fuck off!“. “Billy Balloon Head” is another moment to get the crowd bouncing, enjoying the guitar fills on this one. The Rick Parfitt tribute, “Back To The Stack”, is as emotional now as it was when it first appeared. Then there are some of the tracks airing for the first time; ‘Sunshine Smile’ is all about the riffs, another one that will sound way heavier live, and ‘Northern Boy’ is a belter. If Massive Wagons ever had a track fitting the “epic” tag, then it would be this beauty. After a few beers, surrounded by yer mates, in a sweaty club… Niagara Falls, baby. Niagara Falls. Lyrics like “My Dad’s my hero, my Mother is God”, and, “I was raised on the cheap, but my life is so sweet”, will be evocative for many. A very fine piece of songwriting indeed. ‘Hate Me’ screams “audience participation”, especially the drums during the intro. Along with ‘Last On The List’, it’s another example of the many strings to the Wagons songwriting bow. It’s not just the Friday night feel-good anthems, y’know. After ‘Ballad Of Verdun Hayes’ brings the new tracks to a close, the album ends with both ‘Ratio’ and ‘Tokyo’. Day-one Massive Wagons fans know these word for word, but with Earache now onboard, there will be new fans out there. Their inclusion gives ‘Full Nelson’ even more value for money. Massive Wagons; we love all of yer faces. ‘Full Nelson’ is available August 10th. Don’t worry if you are late to the Wagons party. You’re here now, that’s all that counts. Review: Dave  ]]>
