Review: Magnum – ‘Live At The Symphony Hall’

“Magnum – the greatest band in the world!” More guests also appear on ‘Without Love’, when Rebecca Downes and Lee Small lend their backing vocals to another excellent new track. Classic Magnum tracks are peppered throughout the set, giving it a great mix of old and new. ‘How Far Jerusalem’, ‘Les Morts Dansant’, ‘All England’s Eyes’, ‘Vigilante’ and the incredible ten minute-plus version of ‘Don’t Wake The Lion (Too Young To Die Young)’ all highlight the use of the word “icons”. Magnum were a melodic hard rock band before the phrase existed, and decades later, artists like Sammet are still drawn from the same well. Sammet reappears alongside Downes and Small when all three are called back out by Catley for the epic closing track ‘When The World Comes Down. Forty years on, Magnum are still doing things their way, still producing quality albums of new material. ‘Live At The Symphony Hall’ merely enhances that statement.
