Silence can be louder than a shout..” At fourteen tracks in length, the album is weighty, perhaps two or three tracks too long (‘I Will Make It Up To You’, ‘Resistance’ and ‘Let Me Be’ are yet to convince me), but on the whole, it is an album with much to admire. The Iron Maiden guitar influences can be heard throughout, and if you were to isolate the vocals at times on opener ‘Beautifully Tragic’ then you have shades of the classic “galloping” Maiden guitar sound. Same with the intro on ‘Four Letter Word’, guitarist “Thrasher” Gruft wearing his old school Metal heart on his sleeve, as well as drummer Robert Ortiz who plays with pace and power. In places, ‘I Am Human’ is catchy as hell. ‘Broken Heart’ is essentially a pop song with added guitars, which makes it ready made for arenas, likewise ‘Bleed For Me’, the surprisingly tight “ballad” on the album. The aforementioned title track strays into Linkin Park territory a few times, but it’s such a strong and uplifting few minutes that any gripes quickly evaporate. Even the acoustic ‘If Only’ is catchy, and that features Mabbitt pouring his heart out in a true lament. The pace of the song is what makes it rise above the melancholic moment that it could have been. ‘Riot’ is a strange one though; kind of Avenged Sevenfold meets Sunset Strip in the classic hair metal days, good fun mind you. In all, ‘I Am Human’ is an album with great depth and different sounds from a band not content to sit still. Available now, more details on the official Escape The Fate website. Review: Oli]]>
