Introducing: Wird

Brit alt-rockers, Wird (pronounced ‘Weird’), detail their engrossing new video and single, Lies, which lands everywhere on Friday 20th September. Vocalist/guitarist Zin V answers the questions in our introduction to Wird:

What are the origins of Wird, how long have you been playing together?

The band came from a solo project called Bronchus. Around late 2020 during the pandemic, I got in contact with a few like-minded musicians and we started the band. During the first couple of years, the band saw few changes with the band’s members but we maintained the same direction of the overall sound. I have been playing with the current drummer Austin for nearly three years and our current bassist joined us about a year ago.

What should people expect when they check Wird out? How would you describe yourself?

They should get ready for some heavy guitars, loud drums, raw and unpolished vocals with a lot of feeling to it, and some crazy attitude. We would describe ourselves as quite a simple bunch that just loves to rock out.

How did you feel performing your first gig as a band, and how was it?!

It was stressful in the beginning but it felt really good. We went in with full energy from the very beginning.

What are you working on at the minute that people can check out?

We are just getting ready for our new single release on September 20th. And in October we will be doing a show in London with some new songs in our setlist that we have been working on currently.

Regarding a similar audience, which band at the minute do you feel that you would be best suited to open for?

Probably False Heads

Excluding yourself, which new band would you like to see break out and become a success?

Minatore

What frustrates you about the music business?

It’s the fact that somewhere on the way towards success the music business kills the music itself. I think the music business doesn’t care about the music itself. It becomes less about the music and more about the business and that is frustrating.

What are your first musical memories? And what lightbulb moment made you say “I want to do that”?

It was the first time I went to a Metallica gig. I think that was my switch.

What was the last gig that you attended as a fan?

That was a Placebo gig just a couple of months ago.

What current social issues are you particularly passionate about?

It is the inequality around the globe

The album that you have in your album collection/Spotify playlist that would surprise most people?

That would probably be Slow Rush by Tame Impala

Everybody is a fan of something, who or what are you a fan of?

I am a really big fan of Mark Lanegan and Soundgarden

What new music have you been enjoying so far this year?

Generally, I was trying to listen to more new bands that we played with together this year. But one band I couldn’t stop listening to in particular was Failure

What does the remainder of 2024 hold for Wird?

We will have a few shows around London and the rest of the time will be dedicated to writing new music.

How active are you on social media and where can people connect with you?

I think we are moderate social media users. We try not to bombard people with aimless messages about anything else but music. We can be easily contacted on Instagram, by e-mail, or Bandcamp.
