SoCal Vampires Sinsation and new vocalist Sighren talk us through the origins of the band:
What are the origins of Sinsation, how long have you been playing together?
Thank you so much for having us. We formed in 2019 at The Zombie Prom in Santa Barbara California. We hit the ground running and got a great manager from the get-go. We had a few member changes through the years and now with powerhouse Sodeh Records and two new members, the future is looking very bright.
Sighren: My mind was blown when I first experienced Sinsation at The Whisky as an audience member and I am stoked to now be able to perform with them. We’ve been rehearsing together for about a month!!
What should people expect when they check the band out? How would you describe Sinsation?
Being vampires we bring something very different and cool to fans. You never know who we will want to turn to one of us at a show. Our music and videos are big collaborations with all our members, not one person has all the say, so we have a unique sound that we are very proud of.
Sighren: They should expect face-melting riffs, pounding drum and bass, and energetic vocals that will leave you in a trance. I would describe myself as a siren ready to leave all who listen in a trance!
How did you feel performing your first gig as a band, and how was it?!
I honestly can’t remember our first show but I know we won the metal meeting battle of the bands in Arizona within 6 months of starting and that was absolutely exhilarating and badass. Our first show with this lineup will be at The Whisky A Go Go in Hollywood California.
Sighren: I’ve been looking forward to performing with Sinsation for the first time. Rehearsals have been insane tho! I’m having a blast!
What are you working on at the minute that people can check out?
We just released a single called ‘Only the Strong’ and our next single ’The Ancient Ones’ will be out on Sodeh Records in early 2025.
In terms of a similar audience, which band out there at the minute do you feel Sinsation would be best suited to open for?
Jinjer would be so sick! Also In This Moment, or Evanescence.
Excluding yourself, which new band would you like to see break out and become a success?
Skyplant. Living Darkness from LA. Also, our labelmates Suppressed Intentions.
What frustrates you about the music business?
These days I love the business. Especially with social media we have been able to get multiple sponsors and do unique promoting. We have also landed three different record deals including our incredible Sodeh Records deal we have now, so the playing field has been leveled quite a bit. The only thing is maybe getting on a big festival, but that just takes time.
Sighren: Tribute bands!! Why are they getting booked over original music? Also, stupid social media trends that get absolute garbage trending over well-executed art.
What are your first musical memories? And what was the lightbulb moment that made you go “I want to do that”?
Just waking up early before school to watch MTV and vh1 music videos. I just thought it was so cool to be a rock star. There was a time when I was kinda stuck and didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life. I think I was watching Bashar videos on YouTube and he said something along the lines of “Do whatever excites you even if it’s only a little bit” and I knew instantly being on stage singing and making music was all that really excited me about life.
What was the last gig that you attended as a fan?
Dark Tranquility! It was epic. I cried.
What current social issue are you particularly passionate about?
Homelessness is a big one and is a very complex and nuanced issue. Also, addiction is one that is close to home for all of our band members. AI and self-driving cars! Whether or not our robot overlords are going to turn on us.
The album that you have in your album collection/Spotify playlist that would surprise most people?
Michael Jackson-Thriller *Timecop.
Sighren: Ariana Grande. She has a great voice so I like to use her songs for vocal warmups sometimes. And they’re just super girly fun pop songs that make you feel like a baddie!
Everybody is a fan of something, who or what are you a fan of?
Filmmaking is huge for us. All aspects like acting, production, directing, cinematography, lighting. We are fans of the whole process. Also NFL football and MMA. I am a fan of authenticity and self-expression. I just really admire when people put their true form out there especially when it’s in a raw artistic way.
What new music have you been enjoying this year?
Drab Majesty is a very cool, dark, and melodic sound with an 80’s vibe. I’ve been listening to a lot of Infected Rain and Spiritbox lately.
What do the last stages of 2024 hold for Sinsation?
Lots of shows in LA and beyond. Whisky A Go Go with Burning Witches, also Venom Inc. New singles and videos coming on Sodeh Records starting with The Ancient Ones, we started pre-production on the video that is really haunting and pleasing to the senses.
Sighren: Lots more shows!! New songs and new videos!!
How active are you on social media and where can people connect with you?
Sighren: I could be better at it but I am on Instagram @sigh.r3n We are very active on Instagram
