Introducing: Sin Savage

Sin Savage, is a Belgian heavy metal band, founded in 2019 by Zan Geeraerts, Jasper Vanderheyden, Vassili Golfidis and Andreas Timmerman. This foursome had gained a lot of experience in a number of earlier projects, but wanted to climb up the ranks and make Belgium great again! And so Sin Savage was born. Andreas (bass) and Jasper (guitar) drew the short straw and filled in the blanks on our introduction to Sin Savage.

What are the origins of the band, how long have you been playing together?

Zan and Jasper have been playing together for ages. Jasper joined Zan’s first band ‘Crisis’ when they were still kids. Together they started the band Nightmare in 2012, which later would become Sin Savage (2019). Vassili joined Nightmare in 2013 and was the man we were looking for! Andreas was the new bass guy for Sin Savage.

How did you feel performing your first gig as a band? And how was it?!

Our first gig as Sin Savage was our very own album release show (Lost In The Dark). I think there were like 500 people and the show was sold out. It was such an amazing show, the crowd went insane. Especially when we activated the fire shooters (laughs).

What should people expect when they check the band out? How would you describe yourself?

A mix of hard rock and metal with some old school riffing but still has a ‘new era’ vibe and sound in it!

New single ‘Blinded By Lies’ has just been released, are there any particular lyrical themes behind the track?

It’s about someone who’s stuck in his own blackened mind. Blackened by the people around him. He wants to get out but his mind keeps telling him there’s no way out…

The debut EP billed as Sin Savage; ‘Lost In The Dark’, was released last year, in what ways has the band developed since then?

We had to regain a name in the Belgian music industry after closing down Nightmare. I think we did a great job doing that. People all over Belgium and other European countries know our music.

What is the local Metal scene like in Belgium? Is there quite a healthy wave of bands bubbling under?

There actually is a very good metal scene in Belgium. We played with some really good Belgian bands that are getting successful in other continents. There’s plenty of potential!

The new music scene is bursting at the seams with talent, in what ways do you feel that a band has to stand out from the others trying to build a name?

Make your own damn music! Choose your own path. Don’t let the crowd decide what you should do. Besides that, make sure your online marketing strategy is on point. That’s important these days!

What band out there at the minute do you feel that you would be best suited to open for?

Oh that’s a good one! Personally for me (Jasper), it would be Judas Priest. They are like hero’s to us!!

Judas Priest celebrate their 50th anniversary as a band this year, do you have a favourite Priest album?

In general I definitely like the old albums more. Defenders of the Faith is my absolute number one, but the latest album ‘Firepower’ blew my mind!! Richie Faulkner does such an amazing job replacing KK Downing.

Who would you class as an underrated Metal band?

This is such a difficult question! There are thousands and thousands of bands that are underrated. But yeah the business doesn’t work that way! I love them all!

What are your first musical memories? And what was the lightbulb moment that made you go “I want to do that”?

Oh that would be finding my dad’s Queen albums when I was a kid! Definitely! That got me into music.

What was the last gig that you attended as a fan?

Probably Hardline last year. We opened the night for them. But I would have been there anyway if we didn’t!

The album that you have in your album collection/spotify playlist that would surprise most people?

Andreas: From Mars to Sirius – Gojira. I really like the band!!

Jasper: The Nothing – Korn. Loved the old songs, really digging this new album!

What are your plans for the remainder of 2020?

We are gonna release some songs and we’ll be writing new stuff. Hopefully play some gigs too this year. “Fuck you Corona”
