Introducing: Random Ties

A voice for the oppressed, defiant against the corrupt, Random Ties is a high energy feel-good Rock band based in Detroit. Frontman Youssef took some time out to fill in the blanks on our; Introduction to Random Ties. Read his thoughts below and give the band a follow on their all-important social media pages.

What are the origins of the band, how long have you been playing together?

Hey everyone I am Youssef the frontman for Random Ties a heavy-hitting rock band based in Detroit.

First, let me take you back to 2018 which was when I moved to the US from Lebanon, I didn’t know anyone or how the music scene was so I started going to open mics with my acoustic guitar & meeting other musicians then one thing lead to another & met the rest of the guys.

Our start defines the type of band we are when I think about it, when we first started we didn’t have a reputation in the music scene & no promoter would return our messages so what I would do is follow all the venues around us on social media & in case a booked band canceled an appearance last minute & the promoter or venue needed a fill-in we’d be ready to hop in our car & be available to play the show.

We have, KD who plays the drums thunderously bringing that heavy-hitting power with amazing fills & breaks, Thew on the second guitar, compliments my playing with his fills that are all over our EP & Steven originally from Nirvana’s hometown brought a grunginess to the album with some great basslines.

How did you feel performing your first gig? And how was it?

Our first gig was probably one of our most memorable ones opening for Otherwise a great touring band from Las Vegas, it was a blast playing to a sold-out theatre, when the lights go out it’s go-time.

The new music scene is bursting at the seams with fresh talent, in what ways do you feel that a band has to stand out from the others trying to build a name?

Being a new band ourselves, it’s important to build a good local following and be available to play all types of shows & not mind traveling to reach new fans.

Releasing quality music is obviously key as that’s what people will judge you on at the end of the day.

What are you working on at the minute that people can check out?

We have just released our new single Thawra along with a music video done by Layal @ipr1ncess, we are also working on our EP which will be released sometime in October this year.

What band out there at the minute do you feel that you would be best suited to open for?

We’d love to open for Chevelle or if I want to dream big; Pearl Jam.

Who do you feel is the next band to break out?

Can I say Random Ties?!

What are your first musical memories? And what was the light bulb moment that made you go “I want to do that”?

My first memory was listening to my grandad sing opera, I was blown away by the sheer power of his voice but the lightbulb moment was when I was introduced by my cousin to the Beatles they blew me away.

What was the last gig that you attended as a fan?

The last gig I attended was the Foo Fighters at Little Ceaser’s arena, I really look up to what they accomplished & how they conduct themselves as musicians & humans.

At the end of the day, we’d like to be known as a band that was a voice for the less fortunate & defiant to corruption & abuse of power.

The album that you have in your album collection/Spotify playlist that would surprise most people?

The Three Tenors live in concert.

What are your plans for the remainder of 2020?

Our goal is to remain consistent by providing quality music to our audience & reach a wider fan base geographically so a big thanks to you for giving us this interview & a voice.

We just finished our Eastern US Tour a few days ago & we hope to go on the road again as soon as Live Music is back on its feet.

How active are you on social media and where can people connect with you?

Given that the future of live shows is up in the air, we are turning to social media more to connect with our fans & new listeners, keeping them engaged with good content via our Facebook page, and our Insta page https://www.instagram.com/randomtiesofficial/
