Brit rock crew, Paradise Sins, are here with their alluring new EP, Desires, which is out on Friday 6th December. The melodic rockers will also drop their contagious new single, Beautiful Disaster, on Friday 29th November. Here’s the lowdown on Paradise Sins, straight from the band themselves:
What are the origins of Paradise Sins, how long have you been playing together?
(Dan Jay) – Hello there!! We’re Paradise Sins, a melodic, hard-rock band based in the UK. We officially formed in 2022. It kinda sprung out of nowhere, to be honest. I walked away from music in 2020. I just had nothing left and everyone in my musical circle was turning different corners and everything felt very disconnected.
At the start of 2022, I just felt this insane urge to start writing again and everything spiraled from there. I reconnected with Conor (guitarist) and he had found himself in a very similar situation. Loui (bassist) had spent the time we were locked away during the pandemic obsessively learning bass guitar. All it took was a few beers in the local and a wild plan to start a balls-to-the-wall rock band. A drunken blast of emotions to be honest! Little did we know quite how wild it’d become.
From there I reached out to Zack (drummer) who I’d seen play a few years back when he was a kid. I remember thinking, ‘This kid is going to be a superstar’. He had it all. I got in touch with him with some demos and he was immediately in. It took a fair amount of time searching for a vocalist. The demos were super strong and we had around 100 applications for the vocal position. This guy followed our Instagram one day and I checked out his page – the guy had pipes of dreams! About an hour later he emailed us applying for an audition. I couldn’t believe it. He had everything we were looking for. High-end, soulful, badass vocals. Luis sang ‘Back to the Rhythm’ by H.E.A.T as an audition. It was perfect. From there we started to rehearse as a unit and began production on our first EP, ‘Untamed’. We put out the first single, ‘UnDead’ in November 2023 and that essentially catapulted us onto the live circuit. Like I said, we just did not expect this to turn into anything like it has.
What should people expect when they check the band out? How would you describe Paradise Sins?
(Luis) – High energy, powerful anthems with food for thought in the lyrics. Hits of nostalgia with a modern twist. Clever instrumentation. Killer live shows. Everything you could want from a rock band in this day and age I guess.
How did you feel performing your first gig as a band, and how was it?!
(Loui) – The band’s first gig was actually the first gig I personally ever played! Leading up to it I was super nervous having never done anything like it before but honestly, it was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. Getting up on stage with some of the most talented musicians I know and playing a set was just so awesome. The high I got off of that show got me hooked on playing live and I just want to do it as much as possible now. As a band, we had only rehearsed together fully I think once or twice before we did the first gig but we found our rhythm and chemistry almost instantly, it’s definitely an experience I’ll remember for the rest of my life.
What are you working on at the minute that people can check out?
(Luis) – We have our new single “Beautiful Disaster” coming out soon – ahead of our second E.P. ‘Desires’ which releases on Dec 6th. We don’t really stop working on music either. It’s fun but exhausting! EP pre-save: https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/paradisesins/desires
Regarding a similar audience, which band at the minute do you feel that you would be best suited to open for?
(Conor) – I feel like we would be a great opener for H.E.A.T! We would bring everything and give everything we have to put on a killer hype show for them! Who knows, maybe one day it could happen!
Excluding yourself, which new band would you like to see break out and become a success?
(Luis) – I’m a huge fan of a band called Rat Salad. They’re only in their early days really but they absolutely blew me away at a show in Birmingham very recently and their first single has been on repeat in my playlists for ages. They’re super frenetic, tasteful yet chaotic. It’s so cool. Yeah. I like them.
What frustrates you about the music business?
(Luis) – I see kids going out there and trying to do something but getting all the wrong kinds of information about what it is they should be doing. I’d like to see a bit more support and structure in place for young artists in grassroots scenes so that they don’t get disenfranchised with it right from the offset.
What are your first musical memories? And what lightbulb moment made you say “I want to do that”?
(Zack) – It was my dad who got me into drumming when I was six and ever since the first time I picked up the sticks I had the feeling of “I’ve really got to do this for the rest of my life” he took me to see Mötley Crüe (hell of a first gig by the way!) a few years later and watching Tommy Lee playing solidified that plan for me.
What was the last gig that you attended as a fan?
(Zack) – It was Palaye Royale at the London OVO arena with my amazing partner Marie. Palaye is one of their favourite bands so we had to go and see them and their sound and stage presence blew me away. Absolutely amazing band!
What current social issues are you particularly passionate about?
(Luis) – I take interest in a great deal and a lot of the passion from that goes into my lyrics. You’ll find a range of stuff across these first two E.P’s. Everything from war to religion is in there. I like to weave these into specific narratives so that the message is a little more personal and open to the interpretation of the listener.
I did write a song about the thoughts of a shark dying in captivity. That one’s a little more on the nose than most of the tracks!
The album that you have in your album collection/Spotify playlist that would surprise most people?
(Conor) – It’s got to be the Need for Speed Underground 2 playlist from my childhood! You can’t not rock out to The Doors, Riders on the Storm with Snoop Dogg remix!
Everybody is a fan of something, who or what are you a fan of?
(Loui) – I’m a massive gamer and spend most of my time when I’m not playing music playing games on my PC. In fact, it’s something we all have in common, we are all a bit geeky secretly.
What new music have you been enjoying so far this year?
(Luis) – Myles Kennedy ‘The Art of Letting Go’ – Myles is a hero of mine so it was inevitable. It’s nice that he started doing solo stuff a few years back, he’s a criminally underrated musician. Though I suppose he does have his own PRS now. This is easily his best album so far. Speaking of Myles and guitars: Slash’s ‘Orgy of the Damned’ was pretty cool too, slight departure from his stuff with The Conspirators. Doesn’t hurt having Chris Stapleton warbling one of my favourite Fleetwood Mac tunes either. I listen to so much it’s difficult to pinpoint a few specific ones – I expect my Spotify-wrapped will be a lot of Judas Priest, Sleep Token, Tesseract, Ghost, a little bit of Kendrick Lamar, and…Sabrina Carpenter? Dunno how that got in there. Someone must’ve hacked me.
What do the next few months hold for Paradise Sins?
(Dan Jay) – We’ve just been signed to Mangata Music Management which is huge! That enables us to take to the road in 2025 to reach as many corners of the UK as we can, plus further afield. 2024 ends with our new EP ‘Desires’ coming out and we’re performing on New Year’s Eve at The Robin in Bilston which at the time of this interview has almost sold out. The perfect way to end a monumental year for Paradise Sins – but we’re already looking to 2025 now. Come see us live, come say hey, and support every frickin’ band we play with.
How active are you on social media and where can people connect with you?
