Commanding Welsh riff masters, House of Hosts, are primed to shake the UK metal landscape once again with the release of their blistering new video and single, Darkest Days, arriving on Friday 25th July. This ferocious new track serves as a compelling prelude to the band’s highly anticipated EP, Reckoning, due out on Friday 26th September. Get to know the band, below:
What are the origins of House of Hosts? How long have you been playing together?
Depends which era you’re talking about haha. Our band originally started out back in 2013, but then broke up after a series of lineup changes. We then reformed a couple of years ago and have been going from strength to strength since.
What should people expect when they check the band out? How would you describe House of Hosts?
Filthy riffs followed by big choruses. We want you to be able to headbang but also throw your arm around a mate for a singalong. Hooks are what makes music great, and we want to be able to bring as many as we can.
How did you feel performing your first gig as a band, and how was it?!
It was a bit nerve-wracking, but by that point we’d already played in previous bands and had an idea of what to bring and how to rock the show. It was good fun, and the venue was pretty sweet…shame it’s gone now.
What are you working on at the moment that people can check out?
Our newest single and video “Darkest Days” is out THIS FRIDAY (25/07/2025) and we’re playing Northants Rock festival the same day if anyone is around Northamptonshire! And then in September comes the full EP, “Reckoning”. Don’t want to spoil much, but it’s going to be a big one.
Regarding a similar audience, which band at the moment do you feel that you would be best suited to open for?
There are so many Welsh bands around that would be amazing to open for, but it would have been a dream to open the stage at the recent Rock the Castle show headlined by Funeral for a Friend.
Excluding yourself, which new band would you like to see break out and become a success?
Has to be our close friends and fellow Swansea band Confessions of a Serial Killer. We’ve played more than a few shows with these guys, and they can put on a hell of a show.
What frustrates you about the music business?
The never-ending stream of venues closing. Certainly not helped by flats being built next to established venues, which then put in noise complaints. People complain about a lack of new music, and then cut one of the best places for new artists to develop.
What are your first musical memories? And what lightbulb moment made you say “I want to do that”?
Jack: Earliest? Making my mother constantly repeat Blink-182 and Gorillaz on the CD player in the car as a kid. Then, as a teenager, I picked up Guitar Hero and started getting more into music. As soon as my Dad found out, he whipped out his old Master of Puppets and Reign in Blood Vinyls, and it all went from there.
What was the last gig that you attended as a fan?
SLAAAAAYEEEEEEEERRRR! In Cardiff. Absolutely mind-blowing show, with an absolute monster line-up.
What current social issues are you particularly passionate about?
Where to begin…The criminally underfunded and gutted NHS? The near non-existent mental health services unless you have private healthcare or can somehow afford to pay out of pocket? The forever widening wealth divide between the upper class and lower class? The multiple ongoing genocides? Or how about the disgusting way certain LGBT groups are portrayed in the media or treated day to day?
Everything is fucked right now, and the only people with the power to help care only about lining their already fat pockets.
The album that you have in your album collection/Spotify playlist that would surprise most people?
Jack: Pretty much the entire soundtrack to the Kingdom Hearts game series, and a couple of Lady Gaga tracks.
Ross: Mendelssohn’s violin concerto opus 64 in E minor. Or Frederic Chopin’s etudes. I do have some other mix of choir or chamber choruse. I used to listen to just random chamber voice quartets.
Beth: I actually listen to “bardcore” a lot… think sitting in a tavern in the 1400s listening to some guy smash out “cotton eye joe” on the lute.
James: Kesha – Animal. It’s a certified banger!
Griff: Jonathan Young does Disney – nothing beats getting on the bike at the cracking of dawn, heading to work blasting pop punk Disney bangers.
Everybody is a fan of something. Who or what are you a fan of?
Jack: Pizza. Video games. Beer.
James: Warhammer 40k, the setting is incredible. Whilst I never seem to have time to tackle my pile of shame, I also love reading the books. I think I’m on book 37 in the Horus Heresy series
Beth: My cat!
Ross: Uhhh… Art and Fantasy
Dan: I also love me some Fantasy!
What new music have you been enjoying so far this year?
Jack: Earlier this year, Evanescence released a song for that new Devil May Cry adaptation on Netflix called “Afterlife”. Absolute banger. Other than that, honestly, I’ve been a bit terrible at keeping up with new music.
James: I’ve been recently getting into a band from Germany called Motorjesus. Their album Hellbreaker is brilliant and whilst it’s not new, it’s new to me. The artwork is incredible too!
Ross: Sandbox – The Vagabond
Beth: Sleep Token – Even in Arcadia
Dan: Not really albums, but the new Feuerschwanz and Electric Callboy!
