How long have you been performing music?

The origins of Austin Mulka’s musical journey trace back to his early teens. While Austin is a solo artist, he has been playing and composing music for more than a decade.

What should people expect when they check out your music?

People should expect a blend of contemporary and classic rock, peppered with grunge influences when they check out Austin’s music. It is introspective, emotive, and carries a certain raw authenticity.

How did you feel performing your first gig?

Performing the first gig as a solo artist is always a mix of exhilaration and nerves. Austin describes it as an invigorating experience that further cemented his love for music and performing.

The new music scene is bursting at the seams at the minute with fresh talent, in what ways do you feel that a band has to stand out to build a name for themselves?

In a music scene brimming with talent, Austin believes authenticity and unique storytelling set an artist apart. His music is a sincere reflection of his life experiences and thoughts, and he feels that this genuineness resonates with the audience.

What are you working on at the minute that people can check out?

Austin is currently working on his upcoming album “Reveries and Requiem,” a 90’s grunge-inspired project that’s sure to excite his fans.

In terms of a similar audience, which band out there at the minute do you feel you would be best suited to open for?

In terms of a similar audience, Austin’s music would resonate with fans of bands like Nirvana, Foo Fighters, or Soundgarden.

Excluding yourself, which new band would you like to see break out and become a success?

Excluding himself, Austin would love to see his fellow musician and friend Phillip Campbell break out and become a success.

What are your first musical memories? And what was the lightbulb moment that made you go “I want to do that”?

Austin’s earliest musical memories include listening to classic rock bands like The Beatles and Queen. The moment he knew he wanted to pursue music was when he saw the impact and emotional connection music could make.

What was the last gig that you attended as a fan?

The last gig Austin attended as a fan was a performance by The Veer Union, a band his band “Face the Fire” had the honor of opening for.

What current social issue are you particularly passionate about?

Austin is passionate about mental health awareness, often weaving themes related to this topic into his music.

The album that you have in your album collection/Spotify playlist that would surprise most people?

An album in Austin’s collection that might surprise people could be something from a completely different genre, like Regina Spektor’s “Begin to Hope,” showcasing his broad musical tastes.

What does the remainder of 2023 hold for you? 

2023 holds a lot of promise for Austin with the upcoming release of his album “Reveries and Requiem,” and hopefully, a chance to perform live for his fans.
