Introducing: Alexrincon

Dallas, Texas-based artist/composer Alexrincon talks us through his backstory and what to expect when you check out his music…

What are the origins of your current project?

The origins of my project were simply boredom. I was looking for something fresh and new to do that was outside of my comfort zone. I’ve been doing this project for about 4 years now.

What should people expect when they check your music out?

Something chill and relaxing, emotionally powerful.

How did you feel performing your first gig as a band, and how was it?!

I actually haven’t been able to perform live yet. I’m not sure if I want to or not, since a lot of beatmaking is looping.

The new music scene is bursting at the seams at the minute with fresh talent, in what ways do you feel that a band has to stand out to build a name for themselves?

I personally believe that having good songs should be the focus of ANY musician or band. The rest will come. Focus on making sure your music is actually good, and then focus on marketing your music correctly. Those 2 things are key to being successful in the music industry. The mainstream music industry in my opinion has strayed away from good music, and instead now focuses on gimmicks, which I don’t agree with.

What are you working on at the minute that people can check out?

I just released a new lofi mixtape titled “anewworld” which you can check out on my Spotify!

Which band out there do you feel that you would be best suited to open for?

At the moment, I’d love to open for:

PilotRedSky/PilotRedSun

Hoogway

El Ten Eleven

Don Caballero

Excluding yourself, which new band/artist would you like to see break out and become a success?

I’m not sure at the moment. There are lots of bands out there that work extremely hard and get little to no notoriety. Music can be that way sometimes, and it’s easy to get discouraged. I’d love to see people and culture return to a point where music is actually listened to more and the art, no matter how ambiguous it is, is appreciated at-large. But that’s wishful thinking on my end lol.

What are your own first musical memories? And what was the lightbulb moment that made you go “I want to do that”?

Probably just listening to music as a kid. I remember making me feel so excited about it, and I used to follow bands I loved on Myspace, and they would post about touring or playing Vans Warped Tour. I used to think to myself “man that would be cool to make a record and tour the country.” Thankfully I’ve done that.

What was the last gig that you attended as a fan?

El Ten Eleven in 2019.

What current social issue are you particularly passionate about?

Poverty in America and its healthcare system. It’s something that I don’t feel is talked about enough. Over 70% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck. We’re all one medical emergency away from being in debt for the rest of our lives, and this is all because of political greed. This is unacceptable in the world’s richest country on earth. I truly believe the USA needs a complete political and cultural overhaul.

The album that you have in your album collection/Spotify playlist that would surprise most people?

Miles Davis’ albums in the 60s and 70s. If you’re a close friend of mine, it wouldn’t surprise you however because I love his music. But that always seems to surprise people when I tell them he’s a major influence on my music.

What new music have you been enjoying so far this year?

2023 just started so I guess we’ll see what the year brings! However, I have been loving Enter Shikari’s new singles.

What does 2023 hold for you?

Right now I’m going to continue to write music at my leisure and see where it goes! I’ve also started a new “Live loop” series on my Youtube channel that I’m looking forward to doing more.

How active are you on social media and where can people connect with you?

I’m pretty active! You can find me on all the normal stuff.
