Introducing: Tumble

Tumble is a power trio from Toronto, ON formed in 2022. Their retro hard rock/psychedelic sound pays tribute to the heavy bands of the late 60’s and early 70’s. Liam Deak – guitar/vocals – fills in the blanks on our introduction to Tumble.

What are the origins of Tumble?

Tarun (Bass) and myself (Liam – Guitar/Vocals) have been playing together since 2018, so our chemistry goes back a bit. We formed Tumble in 2022, and Will (Drums) joined the band later that same year. We started out playing open mic’s around Toronto and then began picking up as many gigs as we could.

What should people expect when they check the band out? How would you describe Tumble?

Loud guitars, heavy drums, big bass tones… lots of energy. We take a lot of influence from all the heavy underground 70’s stuff, so I suppose you could expect a bit of an old-school sound and approach.

How did you feel performing your first gig as a band, and how was it?!

Our first gig as a band was great! It was at Lee’s Palace which is a pretty legendary venue here in Toronto. We had lots of friends come out and felt a lot of love and support right out of the gate.

What are you working on at the minute that people can check out?

Our newest single is a cover of “Earth Flight” by Pentagram, which you can stream or purchase on Bandcamp now.

In terms of a similar audience, which band out there at the minute do you feel Tumble would be best suited to open for?

Oh man, there’s a bunch of bands out there that we would be super stoked to open for… to make a long list short I’d say Earthless, Early Moods, Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats, or our fellow Torontonian’s Blood Ceremony.

Excluding yourself, which new band would you like to see break out and become a success?

Hazehound from Montreal, Quebec, and Freeways from Brampton, Ontario.

What frustrates you about the music business?

Artists not getting paid fairly; streaming royalties.

What are your first musical memories? And what was the lightbulb moment that made you go “I want to do that”?

I guess sitting in the car with my Dad listening to stuff like Willie Nelson, The Beatles, Kris Kristofferson, etc., and also taking my first piano lessons as a kid. The lightbulb moment was hearing “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” by The Rolling Stones.

What was the last gig that you attended as a fan?

Austin Psych Fest

What current social issue are you particularly passionate about?

I choose to remain passionate about other things.

The album that you have in your album collection/Spotify playlist that would surprise most people?

Joni Mitchell – Blue

Everybody is a fan of something, who or what are you a fan of?

Tex-Mex, sex and the Sun.

What new music have you been enjoying so far this year?

White Dog’s new record, “Double Dog Dare”.

What does the remainder of 2024 hold for Tumble?

More shows, more music, and hopefully more good times on the road.

How active are you on social media and where can people connect with you?

Definitely active enough… Best place to connect is that evil, soul-sucking platform known as Instagram. @tumbletheband Hit us up.
