Cam (Guitar), Jin (Vocals), Mike (Bass), and Alexis (Drums) are The Haptics. Based in Vancouver, B.C., the band plays dark, melodic post-punk music.
What are the origins of The Haptics, how long have you been playing together?
The Haptics formed in early 2022 over a mutual love of post-punk music. We found each other via craigslist musicians wanted section. Like a blind date for musicians.
What should people expect when they check the band out? How would you describe The Haptics?
We’re a high-energy mix of post-punk, post-rock, post-grunge. We’re working on developing our own post-sound.
How did you feel performing your first gig as a band, and how was it?!
We were pretty nervous, to be honest. We took the stage at the Roxy in Vancouver on a Wednesday night. I remember being nervous to start, but once you get going and start trusting your bandmates up there, then it gets really fun!
What are you working on at the minute that people can check out?
We just released “Vows” on Oct 1st. Our first single this year. “Biodome” The second single is being released Dec 1st, and the album will be released Apr 1st, 2025.
In terms of a similar audience, which band out there at the minute do you feel The Haptics would be best suited to open for?
We love playing live and would open for just about anyone. But right now I think we’d love to open for Fontaines DC. Their new album is great!
Excluding yourself, which new band would you like to see break out and become a success?
We’ve played with some really good local bands around Vancouver this past year, and we’d love to see them break out. If I had to name just one…Creatures of Autumn (from Victoria, BC) caught us off-guard with what a great sound they had.
What frustrates you about the music business?
Being in a band with such cool people and getting to play live for people is a real gift, so most of the time it’s easy to just have fun and enjoy. I think we get frustrated with the lack of compensation for streaming like most bands out there.
What are your first musical memories? And what lightbulb moment made you say “I want to do that”?
We used to go on road trips, and my parents would play the same tapes over and over—Cliff Richard, ’60s easy rock compilations, etc., lol.
When I first saw Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure…I knew being in a rock band was where I wanted to be! (Cam)
What was the last gig that you attended as a fan?
Mike (bass) and I went to see John 5 last month at the Rickshaw as he passed through town. Very good show!
What current social issue are you particularly passionate about?
Vancouver like a lot of port cities has some real drug/homeless issues. Drug overdose numbers are quite heartbreaking, and everyone needs somewhere to call home.
The album that you have in your album collection/Spotify playlist that would surprise most people?
I can only speak for myself here (Cam) but I have a secret weak spot for Hall and Oates.
Everybody is a fan of something, who or what are you a fan of?
Music is the obvious one, I’ve been obsessed with sounds since birth (Cam).
As a band….we’re obsessed with tasty beers.
What new music have you been enjoying so far this year?
The Black Angels, Fontaines DC, Sheer Mag…
What does 2025 hold for you?
Well for 2025 we’re stoked about the new album coming out on April 1st (not a joke) and are really hoping to play some festivals next summer.
How active are you on social media and where can people connect with you?
