Introducing: Insonika

Getting to know Insonika, an experimental stoner 4-piece band based in Jönköping, Sweden, with guitarist/vocalist Oscar acting as tour guide.

What are the origins of the band, and how long have you been playing together?

Insonika started as a three-piece with current singer and guitarist Oscar, bassist Daniel as well as our original drummer Mattias.

It started as a jam project in 2017 that turned into a band, and we wrote tons of music and toured extensively. During Covid, current rhythm guitarist Sebastian joined, but first on keyboards. After a while, we found that guitar and backing vocals/screams suited him better, and he switched. He still does keyboards on our recordings. And in 2024, we had to part ways with Mattias, and Simon joined the band on drums, and now we’ve started our journey towards making music that we love and playing shows that we want to do.

So the lineup is:
Oscar – guitar and vocals
Daniel – bass
Sebastian – synths, guitar, and backing vocals
Simon – drums

What should people expect when they check the band out? How would you describe Insonika?

Insonika is a metal band with heavy stoner influences, where darkness and energy collide in a sound reminiscent of Mastodon, Ghost, and Neurosis. Massive riffs, driving bass lines, and dynamic drums form the backbone of our music, enriched by strings and synths to create an atmosphere that is both intense and dreamlike. Our lyrics blend personal reflections with sharp criticism of the world’s flaws.

How did you feel performing your first gig as a band, and how was it?!

It almost instantaneously felt right.. Of course, we were nervous, but we nailed it and it felt great!

What are you working on at the moment that people can check out?

So we’re releasing a bunch of singles throughout 2025, the latest one last Friday (the 13th of June) titled “Ashes of Certainty”. Check it out!

In terms of a similar audience, which band out there at the moment do you feel Insonika would be best suited to open for?

That is a great question and one I don’t think we’ve ever gotten.. I feel like either Mastodon or Ghost would be perfect for us to open for!

Excluding yourself, which new band would you like to see break out and become a success?

There are so many.. But I would love to see Mythora from Wales break out and become successful!

What frustrates you about the music business?

The difficulty of breaking through the noise, I think.

What are your first musical memories? And what was the lightbulb moment that made you go “I want to do that”?

My (Oscar, guitarist and singer) very first musical memories are of singing together with my mother, finding my voice, and thinking “this is something I really want to do”.

What was the last gig that you attended as a fan?

It was actually a punk rock cruise from Stockholm to Tallinn. With Swedish punk rock bands, fantastic!

What current social issue are you particularly passionate about?

Bullying is a huge one for me, as someone who was once a victim of bullying, I think it will forever be the social issue to be passionate about, of my choosing.

The album that you have in your album collection/Spotify playlist that would surprise most people?

Hmm… I think what people might be most surprised about is my love of Swedish gangster rap, haha!

Everybody is a fan of something. Who or what are you a fan of?

I’m a huge fan of everyone being able to open up about what they feel, when they feel it. None of this beating around the bush stuff, just let me know what you feel!

What new music have you been enjoying so far this year?

Ghost’s latest masterpiece, Skeleta, as well as Sleep Token’s latest album, Even In Arcadia.

What does 2025 hold for Insonika?

Lots of single releases, trying to play live as much as possible, and having fun while doing it!

How active are you on social media, and where can people connect with you?

We’re trying to be as active as possible!

We’re on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok!
