Sonny Jim: Return With New EP 'GALVANISED'

Holier Than Thou Records. Over five tracks, ‘Galvanised’ sees the Welsh rockers embracing their roots, dusting off the AC/DC albums and 80s rock records they grew up with, and adding even more muscle to the Sonny Jim sound. In January Classic Rock raved about the EP’s opener, ‘Don’t Know What You Got Til It’s Gone’ (the video’s here). Making it one of their Tracks Of The Week, the magazine called it ‘straight-up, bullet-between-the eyes rock’. With the Gibson SGs turned up to 11, ‘No Shame’ is the Jims’ excoriating take on the Brexit debacle still engulfing the UK. Combining the Young Brothers’ sound and Dirt-caked spirit of Motley Crüe, ‘Ride Of Your Life’ is a hard-rocking tune about taking life by the balls and Carpe-ing every Diem. There are elements of The Cult and the band’s countrymen the Manics in ‘Everything’, an adrenaline-fuelled anthem laden with Sonny Jim’s trademark hooks. Changing the mood, the poignant closer ‘Final Salute’ is a lilting tribute to Malcolm Young, AC/DC’s talismanic leader who died two years ago. It was written by the band in one emotionally charged session on the day one of their childhood idols passed on. Sonny Jim are from Bridgend, the South Wales town that has also bred Those Damn Crows, Bullet For My Valentine and Funeral For A Friend. ‘Galvanised’ is their tenth digital release, recorded at Sonic One Studios and produced by Tim Hamill (Buck & Evans, Son Of Man, Tyketto). Work and family commitments have meant they’ve been predominantly a studio band over their seven years together, but Sonny Jim are returning to the live arena this year. In July they supported leading AC/DC tribute group BLACK ANGUS at a raucous show in Cardiff’s Fuel Club, the Jims winning over the crowd with a set captured in all its raw glory by a fan’s GoPro. More gigs are in the pipeline to push the band to the next level and bring their best and most heartfelt work to date to their growing audience. It’s got ‘bigger-stages-than-we’re-currently-playing’ written all over it.” Planet Rock have playlisted current single ‘Don’t Know What You’ve Got Til It’s Gone’ on ‘The New Rock Show’, hosted by Wyatt Wendels. “‘Kin ‘ell – this is good stuff!'” – Review on Devils Gate Media “As classic rock as it gets” – Q&A with moshville.co.uk Connect with Sonny Jim here.]]>
