Arctic Dreams is an international metal band based in Serbia and Germany. The band crafts a unique sound that they call “Arctic Metal” blending heavy metal, classical music, and electronic gothic elements into an evocative and immersive musical experience.
What are the origins of Arctic Dreams, how long have you been playing together?
[ALEX_Y]: “Our current lineup has been assembled since the beginning of 2023. We founded the project as early as 2009 in St. Petersburg, Russia. A lot of time has passed since then, the project was on pause for a long time. We resumed full activity in 2020, but then a bunch of events happened and we eventually left Russia and now live in different countries. But that doesn’t stop us from continuing to work.” [SYDIUS]: “ Since the tornados of stardust and ancient galactic remnants brought us together to the core of a new metal planet ” [NENAD]: “I met Alex at a local gig in Belgrade and he kidnapped me haha. The rest is history.” [ROMAN]: “-”What should people expect when they check the band out? How would you describe Arctic Dreams?
[ALEX_Y]: “Well they should expect a show. We’ll do our best to make sure they enjoy it.) Describe us? I’d leave that to our listeners)))” [SYDIUS]: “ Imagine how it might feel outside the friendly part of observed universe ” [NENAD]: “A further expansion of a faster version of low tier progressive metal.” [ROMAN]: “Death metal. Maybe I can say technical death-metal”
How did you feel performing your first gig as a band, and how was it?!
[ALEX_Y]: “I personally didn’t hear anything and couldn’t make it out, haha))) And at that moment only assumed whether we were doing it right or wrong)))” [SYDIUS]: “ Triumphal disaster ” [NENAD]: “Does band rehearsal count as a gig?” [ROMAN]: “-”In terms of a similar audience, which band out there at the minute do you feel you would be best suited to open for?
[ALEX_Y]: “Let it be The Kovenant and Deathstars.)) That’s what they wrote in one of the last reviews of our debut album)))” [SYDIUS]: “ That’s so hard. Only unbiased data research can be exact here. ” [NENAD]: “Avatar, Gojira, Epica…Rammstein would be perfect but that is a completely different management.” [ROMAN]: “Cannibal Corpse, In flames, Keep of Kalessin”Excluding yourself, which new band would you like to see break out and become a success?
[ALEX_Y]: “One of our local Serbian metalheads. A lot of them make very high quality material. The problem is that I don’t know how new they are.))” [SYDIUS]: “ Drew ofthe Drew, Skyhave, Niyoh ” [NENAD]: “Father of Serpents, Offscore, Canary Sun, Organised Chaos.” [ROMAN]: “Steamphonia, Asper X, Green Apelsin, Polnalyubvi”What are your own first musical memories? And what was the lightbulb moment that made you go “I want to do that”?
[ALEX_Y]: “I was 9 years old when I first heard heavy metal. It was a Russian band, analogous to Iron Maiden. I was so inspired by this music that I picked up a guitar at the age of 11. ” [SYDIUS]: “ In childhood, strolling around I imagined recording albums and sang them along with my inner ear ” [NENAD]: “My father gave me his stratocaster when I was 5 years old, and I just started strumming randomly and playing with the wah pedal. That was the moment that I knew that I wanted to do that.” [ROMAN]: “When I was 16, my friend, let’s call him Cuspid, invited me to be a bass player in his punk rock band. When I told him that I could not play bass he responded that I didn’t need to =) I was a bass player for approximately 20 minutes of my life and when I saw the drum set I decided – I wanted to be a drummer, not a bass player. The drummer in this band was as experienced in his instrument as me so we just switched. Then Cuspid explained to me what to do. When I asked, what I needed to do with this pedal, he told me that I didn’t need to use it =) We played punk rock for approximately 20 minutes, and then the administrator of the music studio woke up with a strong hangover and started to explain to us that it is not music, it is masturbation. He took the guitar from Cuspid (the only one from us who could play his instrument) and started to explain to him how to play. Then he asked me to play 4:4. I had no clue how to do that and he asked for how long I play the drums. I told him fairly that approx 20 minutes. He was surprised and started to teach me. That’s how I started playing drums”
What was the last gig that you attended as a fan?
[ALEX_Y]: “Well at the moment it was Behemoth’s performance at Wacken Open Air 2024. Satanic black/death metal on the main stage for an audience of 60 thousand people… It was powerful” [SYDIUS]: “ Jupiter with Thomas Dunford and Lea Desandre performing Purcell ” [NENAD]: “Svartgren and Sargheist in Belgrade.” [ROMAN]: “Noize MC – Swan Lake”What current social issue are you particularly passionate about?
[ALEX_Y]: “Check our songs))” [SYDIUS]: “ Growing polarisation and radicalism in both left and right ” [NENAD]: “Mental health.” [ROMAN]: “It’s not safe to discuss it publicly=)”The album that you have in your album collection/Spotify playlist that would surprise most people?

[ALEX_Y]: “Due to my busy schedule I have not yet had time to familiarize myself with the new products of this year))))” [SYDIUS]: “Latest Unprocessed, but my discoveries go with a growing gap, I follow my listen later chronologic playlist, now I’m somewhere around 1565” [NENAD]: “The new Ulcerate album ‘CUtting The Throat of God” and am really looking forward for Akhlys’ new album “House Of The Black Germinus.” [ROMAN]: “ Unleash the Archers – Seeking Vengeance”What does 2025 hold for you?
