Rising British hard rock outfit Death Warmed Up are ready to make serious noise with the announcement of their debut album, Wildcard, out on Friday, 17th April. The fast-rising Nottingham crew have also unveiled a brand-new single, Gods Of Rock N Roll, and accompanying video. Get to know Death Warmed Up, below:
What are the origins of Death Warmed Up? How long have you been playing together?
We started the band in early 2023 when I (Charlie – lead guitarist) met Lewis (ex-rhythm guitarist) in college. We had been working on college projects together and decided to form a band. I knew Romarno (bassist) from school, and we had played in bands together for years. He knew Will (lead singer), and they both joined within a few weeks of each other. After going through five drummers, we met Alex (ex drummer) on a find musicians website, and he has been with us ever since. We played a few small college gigs in the summer of 2023, but played our first proper gig towards the end of that year and haven’t stopped since then.
What should people expect when they check the band out? How would you describe Death Warmed Up?
We pride ourselves on keeping things real and raw; we don’t use digital equipment in the studio or live, we don’t play to a click, and we don’t even use in-ear monitors. We are just well in tune with each other.
Our music takes inspiration from the exotic, over-the-top style of hair metal, crossed with the pureness of hard rock. People should expect a crazy live show and a listening experience that transports them to the front row of our audience.
How did you feel performing your first gig as a band, and how was it?!
The first ever gig we did was a huge learning curve; we didn’t have enough material, we could barely hear ourselves as we didn’t know how to soundcheck properly, and we had to be out of the venue early as we were mostly under 18. After that gig and a few others that went pretty much the same way, we realised that we had a lot more work to do and didn’t return to playing live for three or four months after. What it did do was ignite the passion to push for better results from ourselves, which is something we still work towards today.

What are you working on at the moment that people can check out?
At the moment, we have just released our first single Gods Of Rock And Roll from our debut album, WILDCARD. Everyone should go and give the track a listen; it gives people a little teaser for what is to come from the album.
Regarding a similar audience, which band at the moment do you feel that Death Warmed Up would be best suited to open for?
There are a few bands around we’d love to open for. Of course, it would be easy to say someone like Guns N Roses, but bands like Jayler, Asomvel, and Tailgunner would be perfect for us to open for.
Excluding yourself, which new band would you like to see break out and become a success?
One band who we wish every success for is White Lightning from Liverpool, they are all great guys and gave us our first show out of our hometown.
What frustrates you about the music business?
Short from content and social media in general is always frustrating; it always seems as if we’re fighting a losing battle.
What are your first musical memories? And what lightbulb moment made you say, “I want to do that”?
Here are the answers to this question from each of us.
Charlie: I began playing acoustic guitar in school when I was about 9 years old, and getting on ok with it, but it was when I was introduced to Queen and Brian May that I fell in love with all things guitars and rock music.
Will: When I was first introduced to bands like AC/DC, Queen, and Free, they struck a chord within me as they were different from what most people around me were listening to at the time. Seeing Iron Maiden Live at Download festival also had a massive impact as it honed in on a singing style similar to my own.
Romarno: Listening to Queen and hearing John Deacon’s basslines made me want to pick up the bass. I started playing around 11-12 years old and always enjoyed playing with friends and bandmates.
