Introducing: ForeignWolf

Belfast heavy rock outfit ForeignWolf are back with new music, announcing their stunning new EP, Merely Mortal, out on Friday 3rd April. The band have just released their superb new single and video, Imposter Syndrome. Dave Brady (lead guitar, backing vocals) talks us through the origins of the band.

What are the origins of the band? How long have you been playing together?

ForeignWolf formed back in 2019. We have always been made up of experienced musicians from other bands and musical backgrounds, and have a wealth of local music scene history behind us.

What should people expect when they check the band out? How would you describe ForeignWolf?

As a band, we have varied tastes but always agree on some core bands. Two of those being Alexisonfire and Deftones. We’ve tried to blend the sounds that we love while keeping our own personal touch. Think Metal and hard rock with some early 2000s emo/hardcore.

How did you feel performing your first gig as a band, and how was it?!

Our first gig ran without a hitch! This was November 2019, and we made sure to have a solid foundation going into it. Surprisingly, there was no nerves, and we ran through without a single hiccup! I personally still look back on it quite often.

What are you working on at the moment that people can check out?

We’re in the process of releasing our latest EP, ‘Merely Mortal’, available everywhere on April 3rd. We’re definitely writing in the background and have some plans in the work, but we’re mostly focused on the here and now! Our new single Imposter Syndrome and accompanying video are available now!

Regarding a similar audience, which band at the moment do you feel that you would be best suited to open for?

I think Deftones is what we would want. They’re undergoing a huge resurgence, and I can see fans of both bands being similar. Who wouldn’t want to support them!

Excluding yourself, which new band would you like to see break out and become a success?

There are so many talented bands on our local scene, and honestly, I’d love to see them all become successful! I couldn’t hand-pick a single one, but spend a few nights at local shows in Belfast, and you’ll see so much potential.

What frustrates you about the music business?

Greed. I’d take the greed out of it and make the industry accessible to all. Fair pay for streams, better funding for venues. There’s more music than ever and less places to see it!!

What are your first musical memories? And what lightbulb moment made you say, “I want to do that”?

I was a pop punk kid growing up. The first album I bought was ‘American Idiot’ by Green Day, and I was hooked. Bought a guitar, learnt how to play, and jammed along to the entire record daily. Before that, I was young and bought a few albums here and there, but never had an interest in pursuing music.

What was the last gig that you attended as a fan?

My last show personally was Alexisonfire with the rest of the band. Amazing gig and we had the pleasure of bumping into Dallas Green in Belfast city centre!

What current social issues are you particularly passionate about?

We’ve always had a passion for mental health. We actively support local charities within whatever capacity we can, in particular Metal 4 Life, who promote mental health in the metal community.

The album that you have in your album collection/Spotify playlist that would surprise most people?

I’ve got Elton John’s greatest hits on regular rotation! Just because I like harsh vocals and crushing guitars doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy some Rocketman or Tiny Dancer!

Everybody is a fan of something. Who or what are you a fan of?

I’m a fan of so many things. I’m a big gamer, spending a lot of my free time at my pc or on the sofa with a controller in hand. It’s just a good way to switch off and lose yourself for a few hours.

What new music have you enjoyed so far this year?

In terms of new releases, we are really enjoying the new album by Poppy, ‘Empty Hands’. It’s a breath of fresh air hearing some new female-fronted metal since the likes of Spiritbox’s last release.

What does 2026 hold for ForeignWolf?

Along with our new EP being released in April, we will be supporting The Cost as part of their Ireland tour in both Belfast and Dublin. We’ve got more shows in the works, but right now our cards are close to our chest! Keep your eyes peeled!

How active are you on social media, and where can people connect with you?
