Will Wilde Releases New Video for “Gypsy Woman” and Announces Support Slot with Eric Clapton

Award-winning blues artist Will Wilde has released a brand-new video for “Gypsy Woman,” a haunting, stripped-back performance taken from his critically acclaimed album Blues Is Still Alive. The track stands apart as the only acoustic recording on the album, offering a raw, intimate counterpoint to the record’s powerful electric blues sound.

The release is accompanied by exciting live news, with Wilde announcing that he will be opening for Eric Clapton at Sandringham Estate on 23rd August, marking the biggest show of his career to date.

Built around the same timeless chord progression as the traditional “St. James Infirmary,” “Gypsy Woman” carries a strong 1920s/1930s nostalgia, evoking the spirit of early blues while remaining deeply personal and contemporary.

The track features an outstanding ensemble of musicians: Bobby Harrison on acoustic guitar, Russell Carr on upright bass, and soulful backing vocals from Dani Wilde, Will’s sister and acclaimed blues artist in her own right. A standout Wurlitzer piano solo from Greg Coulson follows Will Wilde’s own heartfelt harmonica solo, creating a powerful dialogue between voice, harp, and keys.

Lyrically, “Gypsy Woman” is rooted in a pivotal moment in Wilde’s life:

“I wrote this song in 2019 lying in a hospital bed after breaking my neck and back in a motorcycle accident,” says Wilde. “The lyrics ask questions about what the future might hold for me.”

That sense of uncertainty and reflection runs throughout “Gypsy Woman,” lending the performance a quiet intensity that resonates long after the final note fades. As Blues Is Still Alive continues to earn widespread praise for reaffirming the vitality of modern blues, “Gypsy Woman” reveals another side of Will Wilde, vulnerable, reflective, and deeply rooted in blues tradition.

Alongside the video release, Wilde has announced major live news with his upcoming appearance supporting Eric Clapton (plus special guests Ronnie Wood & His Band, and Andy Fairweather Low) at Sandringham Estate.

“I’m very excited to announce that I’ll be opening for the legendary Eric Clapton at Sandringham Estate on 23rd August,” says Wilde. “This is going to be the biggest show of my career so far, it’s a real honour to be involved.”

Eric Clapton famously helped ignite the British Blues Explosion of the 1960s, first rising to prominence with The Yardbirds and John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers, playing a pivotal role in bringing American blues to a new generation of UK audiences.

Decades later, Will Wilde is one of the leading figures carrying that torch forward, redefining British blues through his virtuosic harmonica playing, powerful songwriting, and blend of tradition and modernity. Opening for Clapton at such a landmark show represents a symbolic full-circle moment, a meeting point between the roots of British blues and its future.
