Introducing: Night Thieves

UK hard-hitting quartet Night Thieves are set to release their highly anticipated debut album in Spring 2026—but first, they have just delivered a stunning preview in the form of their brand new single and video, Obsidian, out now. Connect with the band, below:

What are the origins of Night Thieves? How long have you been playing together?

Night Thieves began in 2017, when Rick (bass) and Jess (vocals) were looking for a new project. In stepped Paul (guitar) with huge riffs and ambient textures to answer the call. The last to join was Ryan (drummer), and we have been rocking stages and headphones ever since.

What should people expect when they check the band out? How would you describe Night Thieves?

A blend of rock and metal with big heavy riffs, anthemic melodic hooks, and emotion.

How did you feel performing your first gig as a band, and how was it?!

It was a mixture of emotions, mainly nerves and excitement. There are always nerves before gigs, and way back at our first gig in around 2018, we were extra nervous. Then the excitement of finally getting to play the songs you have spent so long perfecting in front of a live audience. You can prepare for gigs as much as possible, but once you are up there, it’s a different feeling, and you are trying to find the chemistry and do the best show possible. That first gig was a great start and gave us the confidence to know we were onto something special.

What are you working on at the moment that people can check out?

We have just released our latest single, ‘Obsidian’, which is out on all streaming platforms as well as YouTube. It’s the start of a new era for us with our debut album dropping in spring 2026, so we’re very busy preparing for that and will have more news very soon!

Regarding a similar audience, which band at the moment do you feel that you would be best suited to open for?

A dream band that we think we would complement on tour would be Linkin Park, that would be utterly insane though. Other bands that we would really love to play with would be Biffy Clyro, Incubus, and Beartooth. I think our sound with massive riffs and huge choruses would go down well with that crowd!

Excluding yourself, which new band would you like to see break out and become a success?

There are so many amazing bands on the rise at the moment in the UK that we love, such as Lo Rays, Kite Thief, Mallavora, Arimea, Crystalline, and so many more. It’s so great and inspiring to see what they are all doing!

What frustrates you about the music business?

Currently, it’s very hard to know where to invest in the band to make sure you are seen and heard by the real fans. There is a lot of focus on social media and making sure you always appear to be doing something. It’s hard to maintain that focus while also concentrating on the music, which is what it is all about.

What are your first musical memories? And what lightbulb moment made you say, “I want to do that”?

Seeing Trivium in Manchester, supported by It Dies Today and All That Remains. It was my first proper metal gig, and I was immediately blown away by the energy, musicianship, and community feeling at the gig. Trivium has just released Ascendency, and the gig just felt really special.

What was the last gig that you attended as a fan?

Nova Twins at the Kentish Town Forum, and they slayed it big time! In the same week, we also saw Architects, supported by House of Protection and Wage War, at the O2 in London, which was an amazing night!! More locally, we went to the last Mantra night in Islington, London, to see Mimi Barks supported by Lo Rays, and that was an absolute blast!!

What current social issues are you particularly passionate about?

There are so many issues at the moment, as there seems to be a lot more hate in the world for so many different reasons. One thing we always try to do is make sure our gigs are a safe space for everyone, so all are welcome and made to feel included.

The album that you have in your album collection/Spotify playlist that would surprise most people?

People might be surprised to see albums by Savage Garden and Def Leppard in our collections!

Everybody is a fan of something. Who or what are you a fan of?

We all have different interests to bring to the table. Rick has recently been getting into graphic novels, from Batman, Watchmen, and, more recently, Hellboy. He was so taken with it, he’s got a Hellboy-themed bass!!

What new music have you been enjoying so far this year?

This year has been amazing for new music, so far our album of the year is Thornhill – Bodies, but there are also albums from Novelists (Coda), Deftones (Private Music), and Nova Twins (Parasites and Butterflies) that have been awesome as well as Architects – The Sky, the Earth & All Between.

Any gigs left in 2025?

Our final show of the year is London Metal Pride on the 6th December at Signature Brew, London. We would love to see you there, so come down and say hi!!

How active are you on social media, and where can people connect with you?
