The Mars Volta announce new live album ‘“Lucro Sucio; Unfinished Business”

Following the recent announcement of their upcoming North American fall tour dates, The Mars Volta have officially announced the next phase of their cryptic interactive campaign: a brand-new live album titled “Lucro Sucio; Unfinished Business”.

The first single taken from the record, titled Cue The Sun / Alba del Orate is now available on all streaming platforms.

The project marks a major milestone for the group, serving as their first official live release since 2005’s Scabdates. Far from a straightforward live recording of their most recent studio album, “Lucro Sucio; Los Ojos del Vacío,” this new release is a deep reinterpretation of the source material with an added twist: the band’s invitation for fans to directly participate in the album-making process offering fans access to live recordings captured during their 2025 tour.

The initiative originally began with a cryptic countdown clock hosted on a standalone website. Upon its conclusion on June 9, the band unveiled an interactive digital experience featuring audio previews from multiple live recordings and a voting mechanism that allows fans to choose which specific performances make the final cut for the album. In classic Mars Volta fashion, each track is represented by a symbolic visual marker tied to the city where it was captured, a rollout that reflects the band’s continued embrace of unconventional, immersive release strategies while expanding the creative universe surrounding “Lucro Sucio; Los Ojos del Vacío.”

Capturing The Mars Volta as they explore new boundaries of their creative expression, this forthcoming live album documents exactly how the new material evolved on stage while highlighting the band’s renowned live intensity, improvisational spirit, and ever-expanding approach to performance. “Lucro Sucio; Unfinished Business” will be available across three distinct configurations, allowing physical collectors to choose between a Special Edition CD Digipak or a limited Edition 2LP Vinyl set to be released on October 16th as well as a launch on all major streaming platforms as a Digital Album enhanced with Dolby Atmos spatial audio on September 4th.
