Live Review: The Quireboys/FM – Glasgow

“Is it still £1.99 a pint across the road in Wetherspoons?”. Glasses are raised many times throughout the hour long set, a touching tribute is paid to Bernie Torme, and shout outs to both Frankie Miller and Mick Jagger are met with glasses in the air. Spike asks someone in the front row if they want his drink; he hands it to them with a word of warning: “be careful – you might die!” As closing moments go, how does ‘Sweet Mary Ann’ followed by ‘7 O’Clock’ and, what else, ‘Sex Party’ sound? A glorious fifteen minute romp that reinforces the fact that The Quireboys (still) is a live force to be reckoned with. In these circumstances they were the perfect band for the occasion.
