Review: LANDMVRKS – ‘Lost In The Waves’

Marseille, France metalcore band LANDMVRKS are set to release their upcoming third album, ‘Lost In The Waves’ on the 19th of March 2021, via Arising Empire. The follow-up to their 2018 release ‘Fantasy’; ‘Lost In The Waves’ has been one of many COVID-19 lockdown creations. The album totals at just over the 30-minute mark, but however short the album is – it is packed full of diverse core-grabbing riffs and melodies. A dream state for any metalcore fan! From the opening moments of the album-opener ‘Lost In A Wave’ through to the final strains of ‘Paralyzed’, and with a combination of melodic verses, punchy riffs, and a collaboration of different vocal techniques; screaming, rapping, and clean vocals – the pace is relentless. The bass lines on ‘Rainfall’ are a particular standout, and the deceleration in pace around the breakdown is immense, nice industrial touches also. ‘Silent’ is another standout, thanks in main to the lighter-than-light clean vocals from Florent Salfati that kick the track off, a nice calm-before-the-storm effect, and one that continues throughout the track’s three minutes. ‘Overrated’ totally crushes thanks to the pummelling drum work from Kevin D’Agostino, this one is going to totally kill once live gigs return.

The lyrical content from ‘Lost In The Waves’ seems to steer in the direction of the member’s own personal demons and everyday struggles. Most know that mental health is no joke, and with more attention now than ever across the globe – people are now beginning to understand and realise that it is okay to be not okay; that talking or venting in artistic outlets about what is getting you down is very much encouraged. ‘Lost In The Waves’ is dedicated to those who have struggled, to remember that you hold the helm.

For those suffering with their mental health – please know that you are not alone and that there is help out there; UK: https://www.mind.org.uk/ France: https://www.fondationdefrance.org/en/mental-illness
