Review: Def Leppard – ‘The Story So Far – The Best Of’

“But fatboy,” I hear you ask, “I’ve already got a Leppard best of, so why should I shell out for another one?”. Well, this one has a few cheeky little extras. We mentioned Christmas, yeah? So you also get the Lepp’s Christmas single ’We All Need Christmas’, which is surprisingly enjoyable. Incidentally, you can star in the video for said Christmas single, head over to the official Def Leppard website for more information. You also get a remix of ‘Rock On’, and a rollicking cover of ‘Personal Jesus’ which shouldn’t annoy Mode purists too much (and let’s face it, there are enough of them). Guitarists Phil Collen and Vivian Campbell sound like they had a blast recording this one. If you get in sharpish, the first pressing vinyl copies of ‘The Story So Far’ feature an exclusive 7″ single of ‘Personal Jesus’ and ‘We All Need Christmas’. C’mere, there’s more. On the same day, Def Leppard will release the ultimate tribute to the gargantuan, gaziliion-selling ‘Hysteria’ album. With the release of ‘Hysteria: The Singles’, a new limited edition, 10-disc vinyl box set featuring all of the 7″ singles and two bonus singles (“Excitable”/”Run Riot” (Album Version) and “Love and Affection”/ “Don’t Shoot Shotgun” (Album Version)) from their era-defining album, which celebrated its 30th anniversary last year. All together now, it’s starting to look a lot like Christmas…. More information, including full track listing can be found here.
