Introducing: Undefeated

Undefeated

Undefeated are a teen band from Lowville, New York, lead vocalist and guitarist Meredith Dunckel talks us through the background of the trio..

What are the origins of the band, how long have you been playing together?

We’re all from northern New York, and have been together two and half years! I (Meredith … the green-haired gal!) came from a church that didn’t have room. Hidden right in my own house was a metal head drummer! Christian and I played a couple gigs, and then met the Ian (the bassist), who brings in the ol’ roots of 60’s and 70’s rock.

How did you feel performing your first gig? And how was it?!

We played on the front lawn of our friend’s book store! It was fun! We got booked immediately for another gig at a local shop! We were so excited!

What should people expect when they check the band/you out?

A lot of growth! We are growing at an exploding rate musically, bringing our three sounds together to form one. Every song is different! (They don’t even sound like they’re from the same genre!)

How would you describe yourself?

Booming bass, war-like drums, and a li’l bit o’ glitter! We’re a fun-loving band! We argue fiercely, but at the end of the day, we’re a family.

The new music scene is bursting at the seams with fresh talent, in what ways do you feel that a band has to stand out from the others trying to build a name?

They have to know how to use their voice. Be true to themselves, know how to use what they have. For example, if you have a big voice, let it rip! If your voice is smaller, then you need to find a unique sound, and how to use it!

What are you working on at the minute that people can check out?

We just released our second music video! (check it out above) It’s a ballad. It’s filmed in a little church down the road, that’s been closed for years!

What band out there at the minute do you feel that you would be best suited to open for?

Male-fronted. We can amp up a classic rock band with a newer sound, or slide right in with the metal and djent bands.

Who do you feel is the next band to break out?

GFM. They’re well-marketed, guitars rip, and people like an all girl metal band!

UndefeatedWhat are your first musical memories? And what was the light bulb moment that made you go “I want to do that”?

Believe it or not, the host of the Rock N Worship Festival in Dalton, MA, walked up to me. I was playing electric guitar for my church’s youth band (needless to say, it was a less-than-stellar performance). For some unknown reason he was like “Hey! I want you to come play!” So, I went. I had just turned 14. There were all ages and genres at the Rock N Worship Fest; from metal to reggae to gospel. Something clicked. These people were like me!

What was the last gig that you attended as a fan?

We were about to see The Protest on their Mighty Morphin Spring Tour, but alas, the entire country went into quarantine. Before that, I performed at SoulFest, and one of the headliners was Ledger! I could touch the stage, fantastic show!

The album that you have in your album collection/spotify playlist that would surprise most people?

Well, would it be surprising that I have both a 1940’s jazz album and a Fit For A King album on the same playlist?

What are your plans for 2020?

Releasing the music video for Where Are You! Check! We have 3 more songs coming out by the end of the year, to complete an EP! Traveling more in the northeastern states. We were also nominated for the “New Group” Kindred Award. We’re performing our first single, Shadows, at the award show in New Jersey!

How active are you on social media and where can people connect with you?
