Introducing: Trash Heads

Kent-based Alt.Rock/Power Pop outfit Trash Heads are set to drop their new single ‘Set It Right’ very soon, here’s the lowdown on Trash Heads, and don’t forget to give them a follow online.

What are the origins of the band, how long have you been playing together?

AJ, Mark, and Tone all went to school together (Mick Jagger’s old school, Dartford Grammar!) and started off various bands from there. Having been friends since then, we formed Trash Heads in 2014 with local drummer Mike while writing our debut album ‘Skyscraper Heartbreaker’ and started playing shows around London and Kent in 2015.

How did you feel performing your first gig? And how was it?!

Our first gig was supporting local rock legends Leogun at Leo’s Red Lion, Gravesend – it was rammed as they had a large following and we were a bit nervous as although we had some mutual friends/followers the majority of the audience hadn’t seen us before and didn’t know our songs. We went down really well and the nerves settled a couple of songs in!

What should people expect when they check the band out? How would you describe yourself?

We are Trash Heads, a four-piece originals alternative rock band from Kent. We play loud, and write songs that will get stuck in your head – like Sabbath meets The Beatles…

The new music scene is bursting at the seams with fresh talent, in what ways do you feel that a band has to stand out from the others trying to build a name?

Write great songs, pure and simple – that makes the best bands stand out and separates them from the rest of the pack.

What are you working on at the minute that people can check out?

Our new single ‘Set It Right’ is out this Friday 11th June on our Bandcamp page and on all streaming platforms (Spotify etc). Taken from our forthcoming album ‘Vandalism’ which is due out in September.

What band out there at the minute do you feel that you would be best suited to open for?

We’d probably be best suited to some of the bands still out there who influenced us from the 90s – The Wildhearts, Therapy? and Foo Fighters (unlikely, but you never know!)

Who do you feel is the next band to break out?

Two bands we know are making big waves in particular at the moment – Crostpaths and Spyder Byte. Super hard working and both have great catchy songs and great attitudes.

What are your first musical memories? And what was the light bulb moment that made you go “I want to do that”?

AJ: “It was seeing Adam & The Ants on TV as a very young boy and rushing out to buy Kings of the Wild Frontier. Also, I just loved Freddie Mercury and Bruce Dickinson’s fierce energy and vocal powers made me think – I want to do THAT!”

What was the last gig that you attended as a fan?

The first gig we were able to get to after lockdown was a local show our friends Orphan Gears were performing at, with Spyder Byte and Big River – all three bands smashed it out of the park and it was so nice to see live music again!

The album that you have in your album collection/Spotify playlist that would surprise most people?

Taylor Swift – Folklore

Although 2020 was a year to forget for many reasons, some incredible music was released; what would be your album of 2020?

AJ’s album of last year was Mr. Bungle ‘The Raging Wrath of the Easter Bunny Demo’ but also honourable mentions to Pearl Jam ‘Gigaton’ and RTJ ‘IV’.
