Introducing: Metal Factory

Metal Factory is a five-piece melodic power metal band from the Czech Republic, guitarist, and founding member Vasek Moch talked us through the background of the band, as well as discussing the debut album ‘Defeat All’. Connect with Vasek below, and don’t forget to check out Metal Factory online.

What are the origins of Metal Factory, and how long have you been playing together?

The band was founded in 2021 in the Czech Republic by myself. Band members are Jaroslav Sedlacek on bass, Dan Jurecek on drums and it is led by two singers – Pavlina Mochova and Zuzana Batkova. However, the complete instrumental section of the band has been playing together for over 10 years and has played in the most famous Czech power metal bands.

What should people expect when they check the band out? How would you describe Metal Factory?

If you like modern heavy/power/melodic metal with strong female vocals (Battle Beast-type), strong rhythms, and guitar solos, you are at the right address.

How did you feel performing your first gig as a band, and how was it?!

The first gig was absolutely fantastic and incredible. Full club, queue at the entrance, people singing our music, lots of fun and great mood. A dream come true.

The new music scene is bursting at the seams at the minute with fresh talent, in what ways do you feel that a band has to stand out to build a name for themselves?

In the local scene, someone succeeds here sometimes – mostly by a combination of several factors – very good production, a large and interesting stage show, and above all a large initial investment in promotion and concerts and tours at major events. But you need connections, of course, without them it’s definitely slower.

On the foreign scene, it´s more difficult, because the competition is huge. The creation must be really interesting and exceptional, apart from the fact that it must be made of great quality – this is automatically assumed.

What are you working on at the minute that people can check out?

We just released our debut album “Defeat All”, we’re working on a few more music videos, and we’re slowly starting to promote the band. And above all we are preparing new songs, we are really looking forward to them because we have peace and time for them. It will be great!

In terms of a similar audience, which band out there at the minute do you feel you would be best suited to open for?

We think definitely Battle Beast with Noora Louhimo.

Excluding yourself, which new band would you like to see break out and become a success?

At the open-air show last week we saw the band Allnevr. They sing in the Czech language and we haven’t heard much about them before. We really liked it and they would definitely deserve a better place on the domestic scene.

Of the Czech bands playing heavy/power, there are also a few great bands that would deserve a better place on the stage. Although they (no doubt) already have a name. Eagleheart, Perseus, Porta Inferi, Rimortis, Sebastien, and many more…

What are your own first musical memories? And what was the lightbulb moment that made you go “I want to do that”?

At the age of 18, after playing various musical instruments for a long time, I still refused to pick up a guitar and play it. Everyone played the guitar and I hated it. My father was a guitarist and once he showed me a power chord for fun. I tried it and played an “easy” 2-chord riff from a song from ZZ top. And I fell in love and knew I wanted to make rock music.

What was the last gig that you attended as a fan?

Last weekend – famous Czech band Doga played at an open-air festival near the City of Ostrava.

What current social issue are you particularly passionate about?

We are very careful about social issues. Social issues often polarize society and evoke a bad mood. In general, we oppose evil and certainly do not deal with topics such as alcohol, drugs, sexual topics, violence, extremism, and all social – pathological themes.

The album that you have in your album collection/Spotify playlist that would surprise most people?

Nitro – O.F.R.

Although 2021 was another year to forget, there were some amazing new albums released, what would be your album of last year? And, what new music have you been enjoying so far this year?

I was absolutely surprised by the album “Dark Connection” (Beast in Black). The first time I heard the single ‘One Night in Tokyo’ I thought – for God’s sake, what a disco, this is really too much, you can’t listen to it – a piece of a s**t. Then I heard it again. And again. And again. It played in my head nonstop. I’ve seen the video clip about a hundred times. Then I realized what a huge work this is. Lots of other great songs, fantastic sound, world production with everything that it needs and I’m proud that Anton Kabanen has been my huge composer’s role model all the time I’ve known him…

What does 2022 hold for Metal Factory?

A milestone in the band’s history – the release of the debut album “Defeat All”, the first concerts, a lot of work, and motivation for the future.

How active are you on social media and where can people connect with you?

We are active mainly on our official Facebook where we try to keep in close contact with the fans. We like to be in contact with people, they are important to us and we want to create new music with their help. It is also possible to write to us by e-mail (metal.factory@seznam.cz) for physical CD or merchandise order. And we´re active on Instagram too, of course!
