Introducing: Kade Storm

Skegness-based Black Metal musician Kade Storm has just released his latest album ‘Ascension’, and he was on hand to talk us through all you need to know about Kade Storm.

What are the origins of the band?

It’s a solo project, and while I have had the odd few session musicians, the recent work has been entirely my own. The project itself has a fairly uneventful beginning and goes back all the way to around 2003.

How did you feel performing your first gig? And how was it?!

I was only doing some live guitar work for a friend’s band and had a mask. I can’t say anything of note from that experience.

What should people expect when they check you out? How would you describe yourself?

I make heavy music with a dark and layered atmosphere. It’s generally Black Metal in terms of style and atmosphere but has Doom Metal and Death Metal elements. The rest is down to harnessing inspiration.

The new music scene is bursting at the seams with fresh talent, in what ways do you feel that a band has to stand out from the others trying to build a name?

That’s a very important observation. Many excellent projects and bands around these days and with technological advances, as well as accessibility, more individuals are able to realise their vision. As for standing out; I can’t say. I think artists and creators should just be true to their ideas, let them stand on their own, and appeal to whatever extent they will and to whatever audience.

What are you working on at the minute that people can check out?

I’ve recently released a full-length LP titled Ascension. It’s also seeing a physical CD release via Narcoleptica Productions. – (Bandcamp links, below)

What band out there at the minute do you feel that you would be best suited to open for?

There are too many greats out there to start listing. That said, I’ve not really considered live work for this project.

Who do you feel is the next band to break out?

I’m probably the last person who has a worthwhile read on the pulse of the industry and whatever fringe project can manage to break into the mainstream.

What are your first musical memories? And what was the light bulb moment that made you go “I want to do that”?

It would have to be a number of memories and experiences that finally culminated in that moment. Personally, it was initially driven by exposure to various Extreme Metal bands, but specifically the debut LP, “Nothing Changes” by UK Thrash Metal veterans, Solitary. Even though my style and aesthetic are quite different, something underlying the drive in their music was highly inspirational.

What was the last gig that you attended as a fan?

I have a bit of a strange life, so to speak, so, I don’t get to attend all that many gigs. The last proper one was Bloodstock 2005.

The album that you have in your album collection/Spotify playlist that would surprise most people?

I don’t have any notable outliers or music on my playlist that stands out as being very different from the general stuff I listen to and create myself.

Although 2020 was a year to forget for many reasons, there was some incredible music released; what would be your album of 2020?

There can’t be only one when it comes to this question, and in my case, there are numerous to name. Since I’m terrible at listing them all, I’ll name a few releases from 2020 that I’ve listened to frequently. “The Truth Behind the Lies” by Solitary, “Deathless Luminosity” by Formless Oedon, “The Haft Khan” by From The Vastland, “Beyond the Horizon“ by Amygdolor, Dawn of the Damned” by Necrophobic, and “Solitude in Madness” by Vader.

How active are you on social media and where can people connect with you?
