Introducing: Haneke Twins

Fronted by two scientists from the largest particle physics laboratory in the world, Geneva-based Haneke Twins make post-punk influenced music. Check them out below…

What are the origins of the band, how long have you been playing together?

We’ve been playing together for many years in cover bands but the Haneke Twins were born in 2018.

How did you feel performing your first gig? And how was it?!

The first one was in a squat in Geneva, Switzerland and it was great. The feeling when playing our own tracks… amazing.

What should people expect when they check the band out? How would you describe yourself?

Our sound could be described as “dark undertones with glimpses of light”. We have various influences and our music is a blend of these. People should mainly expect a dark atmosphere.

The new music scene is bursting at the seams with fresh talent, in what ways do you feel that a band has to stand out from the others trying to build a name?

You have to be unique in some aspects I guess. The bands that really stand out to our ears are the ones playing something not easily compared with other artists/bands. Might not be taken positively, but as much as we love e.g. Led Zeppelin, do we need a new Led Zeppelin? Or we need a new Shame, a new Bjork maybe, their combination?

What are you working on at the minute that people can check out?

We just got our mini-LP “Astronaut” released by The Animal Farm Music! So, we’re trying to promote it with a few gigs, although the pandemic situation doesn’t make it easy…

What band out there at the minute do you feel that you would be best suited to open for?

Interpol? Editors, UNKLE.

Who do you feel is the next band to break out?

Maybe Hopper? or Tova.

What are your first musical memories? And what was the light bulb moment that made you go “I want to do that”?

We were always around music. First listening, going to gigs. Then we started playing in cover bands and at some point, we decided to switch and start writing our own music. The recording of our first tracks was an amazing experience. We do it mostly out of passion, as in the daytime we’re working as scientists in a very active environment (CERN).

What was the last gig that you attended as a fan?

Oh, one of the all-time favourites. A Perfect Circle. Such a great inspiration… each one of the members is great.

The album that you have in your album collection/Spotify playlist that would surprise most people?

Arcturus – La Masquerade Infernale

How active are you on social media and where can people connect with you?

We’re trying to be as active as possible, but we have to admit that we prefer in-person communication with people through gigs 🙂
