Introducing: Epitome

Introducing Polish grindcore stalwarts EPITOME:

What are the origins of the band, how long have EPITOME been playing together?

Dyvan: Welcome dear readers! The beginnings of the EPITOME band date back to 1992, so it’s been 30 years! The oldest musician is Kiszka, he joined the band in 1994 and since then he has not let the band die 😉 Misiek, our guitarist joined the band even earlier, in 1993, but around 2006 he left the band. During this time, guitarists, vocalists, and drummers changed … In 2018 Misiek returned to the band. I joined the band at the very beginning of 2022, and our drummer Rafał, joined us a few weeks ago, so he is currently the youngest internship in the band 😉

What should people expect when they check the band out? How would you describe EPITOME?

Dyvan: The only thing you can expect from contact with EPITOME’s music is addiction to the musical form we call: Pathological Sound Formula 😉

The new music scene is bursting at the seams at the minute with fresh talent, in what ways do you feel that a band has to stand out to build a name for themselves?

Dyvan: There’s no point in telling anyone whether they should do this or that, or not to do anything because “there are too many bands in the world.” Everything you do should come from within. That should be the only motivation. If someone puts career, money, etc. in the first place, he will never create music that is honest with himself. Career and money should only be a consequence, not a goal in itself.

In terms of a similar audience, which band out there at the minute do you feel EPITOME would be best suited to open for?

Dyvan: It’s always nice to play in front of, or maybe it’s better to say “together” on one stage with bands you’ve admired since you were a kid. We are not a rookie, we can afford to organize concerts where EPITOME is the main course 😉 Of course, it will be great to play on one stage with the crazy people from Rotten Sound in June at Flesh Party Open Air Fest in Slovakia 🙂 This is how it should be in my opinion interpreted. Everyone should enjoy playing, even if he plays as a support act.

Excluding yourself, which new band would you like to see break out and become a success?

Dyvan: There are many such bands. In the underground, it is not difficult to find bands that should be present not only on local stages. Among other things, our colleagues from our city are a very promising band (they are making their debut, but their musical experience is very long), namely the band Egzekucja. I recommend getting to know their music 🙂

What are your own first musical memories? And what was the lightbulb moment that made you go “I want to do that”?

Dyvan: In my private opinion, there was a moment, quite a long time ago, with my first band, when we recorded our debut, but it soon turned out that this is not the time for us as people to fight together on the stages of the world 😉 To be honest It was also the moment when I decided that I don’t even want to do this anymore. This is how almost 10 years passed without participation in music. Of course, there were smaller collaborations with familiar bands at that time, but these were only temporary distractions from everyday life. In the fall of 2020, I was invited to the SARS band as a vocalist, and that’s how it stayed. Two years later I joined EPITOME and currently these two projects are my daily bread 🙂

What was the last gig that you attended as a fan?

Dyvan: The last concert I went to was a punk concert in a club in my city. But there are many more concerts ahead of me, so it will change very soon 😉

What current social issue are you particularly passionate about?

Dyvan: It will not be surprising that, as usual, the biggest problem of everyday life is politics and its close cooperation with the institution of the church and, on the other side, the connection of politics with the banking system and corporations. Unfortunately, these monsters are destroying human life, gradually impoverishing it, dumbing it down. Nothing has changed for a long time, only the shell changes, the names of the systems that are forcibly implemented to us. The essence is always the same – total control over humanity. We could talk about this for a long time, so I’ll stop there 😉

The album that you have in your album collection/Spotify playlist that would surprise most people?

Dyvan: Undoubtedly, the material that surprised everyone was the second demo “AutoeROTicism”. No one was really ready for this material 😉 In turn, the release of our latest album “ROTend” was a surprise – no one expected, after 8 years of break in publishing, that EPITOME would spit out something else 😉

What does 2023 hold for EPITOME?

Dyvan: Certainly, some great concerts ahead of us, work on the next album, we also have a few other ideas that I will not talk about for now, because they are still in their infancy and it is not known whether any of them will come to effect 😉

How active are you on social media and where can people connect with you?

Dyvan: Of course, we are present in the media, you can find us on FB, Instagram, YT. If you want to buy our latest album, please visit our publisher’s Deformeathing Prod store.
