Introducing: Diseased Earth

Diseased Earth are an American blackened sludge metal band, and vocalist Travis took some time out to talk us through the origins of the band…

What are the origins of the band, how long have you been playing together?

Diseased Earth started 7 years ago in the ashes of several local bands. We all came together because we wanted to offer something heavier than we were seeing with other local bands at the time.

How did you feel performing your first gig? And how was it?!

The First Diseased Earth gig was insane. there were tons of people and there was a big mosh pit and it was probably the best first gig anyone could ask for.

What should people expect when they check the band out? How would you describe yourself?

Heavy riffs, pounding drums, and screeching vocals. we are all about the power of the riff, we want it to get stuck in your head and find yourself humming it later.

The new music scene is bursting at the seams with fresh talent, in what ways do you feel that a band has to stand out from the others trying to build a name?

I think at the end of the day, you should just play the music that makes you happy. Don’t worry about fitting in with anyone else, just play stuff from the heart. be respectful of other bands and fans and stay humble.

What are you working on at the minute that people can check out?

So far this year, we’ve released 4 singles. we started working with a new producer, Buddy Harlow, who really helped develop our sound. We are making plans to go back into the studio with him and record three more songs.

What band out there at the minute do you feel that you would be best suited to open for?

We can fit in with a lot of bands. we can play and have played with death metal bands, sludge bands, and hardcore bands, we’re about to open for Brand of Sacrifice and have opened for Crowbar in the past.

Who do you feel is the next band to break out?

There are so many great bands out there. Four Thirty Four, Tiller, Spiral Fracture, Alcindor, Cut The Architects Hand, Helgamite, Alluvion, Vomit Stain, Heemeyer.

What are your first musical memories? And what was the light bulb moment that made you go “I want to do that”?

I think it was seeing the Deftones back in 99. the power and energy they brought to the stage made me want to do that.

What was the last gig that you attended as a fan?

It’s been a while. work and the pandemic have made it a lot harder to attend gigs

The album that you have in your album collection/Spotify playlist that would surprise most people?

I’m pretty open about my musical taste it will go from metal to hip hop to pop punk to folk punk.

How active are you on social media and where can people connect with you?

We are pretty active on social media. you can find us on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Spotify, I mean pretty much any form of social media, just look up Diseased Earth.
